Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Erling, a playful little adventurer with a big personality and an even bigger love for snuggles! Erling is a 2-3 month old Shepehrd Mix who he loves running around, exploring everything he can find, and playing with his foster buddy Ozzy, but once he’s tired himself out, he’s more than happy to curl up close for a nap. Erling is curious and excited about the world around him. He loves meeting new people, soaking up attention, and has been wonderful with another dog in his foster home. He’s already getting the hang of puppy life, working on his wee wee pad training and learning basics like “sit” and “lay down.” He also sleeps comfortably in his crate. His ideal family will be ready for all the fun that comes with raising a puppy — plenty of playtime, continued training, new adventures and, most importantly, lots of love. Erling is ready to grow up with a family of his very own!

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
