This handsome 2-year-old male Mixed Breed Dog is a 70-pound gentle giant with a beautiful short tan and white coat and a whole lot of love to give. Boots absolutely adores people and is ready to find a family who will make him part of their lives. Boots has a medium energy level and is a smart, food motivated boy who is very easy to train. He does great with children and enjoys being around people. Boots does well with dogs, but because of his prey drive, he should not live with cats or other small animals. He would truly thrive with a family all to himself where he can soak up plenty of attention and return that love many times over. His house, crate and leash training are in progress. Although many dogs become reliable with house training, accidents can still occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Boots would do best with a family that has the time and commitment to continue his training while providing structure, consistency, positive reinforcement, exercise, and plenty of quality time together. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
