Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Psalm is a 1 yr old Black Lab with a whole lot of love, enthusiasm, and classic young Lab energy packed into one handsome boy! At home, Psalm is actually a pretty quiet guy. He is potty trained, knows basic commands, loves being petted, enjoys his toys, and is always up for a game of fetch. He’s also a huge fan of water and absolutely LOVES his walks. His foster currently gives him a nice long walk in the morning and another in the evening, along with playtime during the day, and that activity helps him be his best self at home. And then there’s food. To say Psalm is food motivated might be the understatement of the year. This boy will do just about anything for a treat! That should make continued training a lot of fun, but he could definitely use some help learning that every piece of food in the world does not, in fact, belong to Psalm. Food shouldn’t be left unattended within his reach, and he currently uses a slow feeder to help him slow down at mealtime. Psalm loves everyone he meets and doesn’t waste any time making friends. He can still get a little too enthusiastic and jump up to greet people, but his foster has been working on this and he’s already improving. He’s just as excited about other dogs and wants to play with every one he sees. Sometimes Psalm’s play style and enthusiasm can be a little much for other dogs, so he’ll need thoughtful introductions and an appropriate canine match. His foster has been working hard on teaching him to stay calm around other dogs, and he has made great progress, but his new family will need to continue reinforcing those skills. On walks, Psalm can pull when he sees another dog because he wants to go say hello and play. He was trained to walk using a prong collar by his previous owners and currently does best with it. The good news? Even when he’s excited, you can tell him to sit and he knows exactly what you’re asking. He may occasionally bark to register his official complaint about having to sit instead of play. Fetch is another favorite, although Psalm hasn't quite embraced the give the ball back portion of the game hahaha. Sometimes he'd much rather keep it and turn fetch into a game of "catch me if you can!" Psalm is a young, energetic, affectionate and incredibly social dog looking for a family who understands that a 1 yr old Lab still has some growing up to do. He’ll thrive with someone who can give him plenty of exercise, playtime, structure, and continued training. In return, you’ll get one very happy boy who loves people, loves adventures, loves affection...and really, REALLY loves snacks. His adoption donation is $210 & will include age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, and neuter. Please follow the link to submit an application: bit.ly/3GDeyyo

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
