Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: 495.00. All interested people should submit an adoption application as their first step. Meet Micki: Tiny Dog. HUGE Opinions. Micki is a 9-pound Chihuahua who has carefully reviewed the human population and has decided that women are excellent and men are… questionable. She absolutely ADORES her foster mom and has appointed herself her personal, four-legged shadow. Wherever Mom goes, Micki goes. Bathroom? She’s coming. Kitchen? Obviously. Couch? Already there. Privacy? Never heard of her. She is basically Velcro with ears. Once she’s attached herself to her favorite person, Micki is incredibly cuddly and affectionate. She loves snuggling and being close, and honestly, she would probably prefer to spend most of her day glued to your lap. But don’t let all that cuddling fool you—Micki is also a fun little social butterfly when it comes to other dogs! Big dogs? Fine. Little dogs? Fine. She enjoys playing with everyone and doesn’t seem particularly concerned about their size. Apparently, she has no problem being brave when there are four legs involved. Now, Micki does have one tiny little complaint about modern life: being left alone. She is not a fan. When her people leave, she may cry and bark for a bit because clearly their absence is a personal betrayal of the highest order. The good news is that she is not destructive. She simply has a brief dramatic episode, expresses her displeasure vocally, and eventually settles down. Micki appears to be mostly housebroken, which is another point in her favor because she has already mastered several important adulting skills. So, if you’re a woman looking for a tiny best friend who will follow you everywhere, snuggle like her life depends on it, play with the neighborhood dogs, and occasionally make sure you understand exactly how disappointed she is when you leave the house… Micki would like to meet you. Men need not apply. (Okay, maybe eventually. But Micki reserves the right to be suspicious.) All pets adopted from GDHS are spayed or neutered, have vaccinations brought up to date, are on heartworm preventative (dogs), FIV/FELV tested (cats) and microchipped. The Greater Derry Humane Society does not have a physical shelter, and all visits are by appointment only.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
