Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 500. Lawton. This handsome guy was supposed to be picked up by another rescue, but he's been waiting for his freedom ride for months and his ride never showed up. So, he was just stuck in the shelter until we sprung him loose and he caught a last-minute flight to Pennsylvania! Lawton was the shelter favorite. They estimate that he's about 3-4 years old. He's 55 lbs. He was treated for HW and is now HW- and he is neutered. He's a GREAT dog. He's super calm, cuddle bug, couch potato. Gentle for sure. He's been great with all types of people and gets along with other dogs and cats. He'd be grateful to anyone that has a soft place for him to lay. Even better if you like to curl up with him, too. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
