Description

Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat). Meet Pica! This 1½-year-old, 41 lb German Shorthaired Pointer girl is a sweet, gentle soul ready to explore the world with her forever family. Pica is at that nice stage of life—past the tiny puppy phase, but with all the goofy, curious puppy enthusiasm intact. Since the big wide world is still pretty new to her, every day brings discoveries. Pica is a tender-hearted girl who loves going for car rides, chewing on Nylabones, and squeaking her favorite stuffed duck. Her absolute favorite pastimes are strolling around the yard, sniffing through the orchard, and taking in all the sights (including watching horses across the road with great interest). Here is a quick snapshot of life with Pica: Personality & Temperament Sweet & Gentle: Pica has a truly loving, mild temperament. She can be a little hesitant when meeting new people at first, but once she takes a moment to warm up, she is ready to interact. Puppy Energy: She’s full of young-dog playfulness and curiosity! Home Manners & Training Housetrained & Crate Trained: Pica is housetrained. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night and handles short daytime crate breaks like a champ. Learning the Ropes: Since she hasn’t had a ton of life experience yet, Pica is learning just about everything from scratch. She is currently working on basic cues like Sit, Come, Off, Load Up, and Crate. Leash Manners: She gets super excited on walks. If she spots something new—like a squirrel—her puppy enthusiasm takes over, and she’ll pull quickly, so she’ll benefit from a steady hand and continued leash training. Ideal Home Placement Homebodies Preferred: Pica has a high-pitched, persistent bark when left alone, as she prefers to be where the action is. She will do best in a home where her humans are around most of the day or work from home. Buddy System: She is currently doing well with slow, steady introductions to other dogs and would likely thrive with another calm dog in the home. Pica is a total gem of a GSP who just needs a patient, loving home to guide her, teach her doggy manners, and build her confidence. If you’re ready to give this sweet girl the world, Pica is ready to meet you! Overview:

The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a versatile and elegant sporting breed, originating in 19th-century Germany where it was developed for hunting various game. Physically, GSPs are known for their athletic build, sleek coat (typically liver or liver and white), and intelligent, expressive eyes. They possess a strong, muscular physique that enables them to excel in diverse activities. Temperamentally, GSPs are energetic, intelligent, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. Their loyal and affectionate nature means they thrive on human interaction, but their high energy levels necessitate ample daily exercise to prevent boredom or destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless their exercise requirements are exceptionally well-met. Regarding health, GSPs are a relatively robust breed, though they can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers. Responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
