Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois (medium coat). Meet Patsy, the spirited Belgian Malinois pup. Patsy came into the Shelter as a product of an accidental litter, along with her three siblings. Patsy grew up in a home where she was primarily outdoors but is gaining some indoor-dog experience at the Shelter. Adopters should plan on having Patsy indoors primarily in her adoptive home, unless supervised with them outside. Patsy is very much a puppy and is working on life skills and manners like potty training, leash walking and age appropriate socialization. She loves to play with toys and chew anything she gets her mouth on. Puppy proofing your home will help to keep your favorite pair of shoes safe from puppy chomping. Any resident dogs in the home should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. These puppies have some experience with children under 12 years old. Adult guardians in the home should be overseeing any interactions between children and puppies as their sharp puppy teeth can be overwhelming for young children. We do not have any history of them in a home with cats or small animals. Patsy is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
