Description
Dog Breed: Tibetan Terrier. Meet Rocky and Sunny. Rocky and Sunny are a bonded pair of medium sized dogs that were surrendered together due to familial issues. They have been through the stressful changes of coming to live at the shelter together so we would love if they could go home together too. They likely speak Spanish Rocky is 19 pounds and was born September 1, 2023. Sunny weighs 35 pounds, was born November 23, 2023. They are both neutered, microchipped, up to dates on vaccines, dewormed, started on monthly flea and heartworm prevention, their adoption fee together is $750. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Overview:
The Tibetan Terrier, often called the "Holy Dog of Tibet," hails from the remote monasteries of Tibet, where they were revered as companions to monks and herders, not true terriers in the hunting sense. These charming dogs boast a distinctive, shaggy double coat – a soft, woolly undercoat and a fine, long outer coat – that provided insulation in harsh climates and comes in a variety of colors. Physically, they are medium-sized with expressive eyes and often sport a characteristic forelock. Temperamentally, Tibetan Terriers are known for being intelligent, loyal, and surprisingly agile. They are generally good with children and other pets, making them suitable for active families. Their adaptable nature also means they can thrive in apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation. While generally a healthy breed with a lifespan of 12-15 years, potential owners should be aware of possible genetic predispositions to conditions such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and luxating patellas. Regular grooming is essential to maintain their beautiful coat and prevent matting.
