Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. Hello, world! My name is Frankie Brown, and I am a three-year-old, 35 pound shepherd mix. My foster mom says I look like a German shepherd that got shrunk in the wash. I prefer to think of myself as a short king. I have already mastered many skills. I am house trained. I am crate trained. I walk very well on a leash. I know basic commands like sit and shake. I am very quiet in the house. I have also mastered napping next to you on the couch and letting you know when I want pets and cuddles. In other words, I am ready to be your distinguished companion right now! Do you have other animals in your house? Wonderful. I have lived with dog-savy cats and other dogs. We would need an introduction, of course, but I can be their companion, too. Do you have children in your house? Well, that is a bit more complicated. I don’t like the unpredictability of toddlers, but if your kids are older and respect my boundaries, I’m sure we will get along just fine. Like any king, I do have a couple of quirks. I am a bit of a picky eater, even when it comes to treats. I also tend to get car sick, but my foster mom is helping me with that. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
