Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). ***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption application at .emmetcountyanimalshelter meet n greets are set by appointment only with approved applicants.*** Owen is really ready to find his new forever home! This lil dude has been such a trooper at the shelter and we have loved having him hang out with us but its time for him to head out. Owen lost his human and ended up here at the shelter and he is 10 pounds and 10 years but you wouldn't think it since he is so active and looks great! He was promptly neutered and had a dental when he arrived but then he struggled with some on an off bad stools which we finally figured out was him snitching cat kibbles from the lobby cats when no one was looking! He's all good now and is just the best little buddy. He would do fine in a home with gentle children, a nice (not too rambunctious dog close to his size) and he's good with cats too. Or if some kind senior person would just wants someone to sit and watch TV or read a book after a short walk that would be cool with Owen too! He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped his adoption fee is $275.00

Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
