Foster Home Feedback 9/1/26 Foster Feedback: Ilona is one of the best piggies around and has the squishiest head. She knows basic commands, keeps her crate clean and is house trained, loves to give kisses to her friends (after a brief meeting) and is dog friendly. She hasn't been cat tested -- if a cat would run from her, I'm pretty sure she'd chase it in all fairness. Ilona is such a sweetheart -- when I work from home, she is content to lay in a dog bed right beside my desk, with just a let-out break at noon. She loves squeaky toys and will even play fetch -- at least for awhile. Ilona is a nice, medium-size dog weighing in at 50 lbs. Ilona would love to have a family to call her own (no one came for her at the pound - how sad). Let that family be you and apply to adopt her today! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
