Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Who out there is looking for a challenge? This is Emma, a 4 year old 9 pound girl. Emma was not treated well before she came to DRSF. She takes some time to trust people, but once she does, she’s all in. Emma’s perfect home: Single female that doesn’t have a lot of company. She can get used to more than one adult in the house, but will need extra time. She will bond more to one person initially. No children. Must not mind her barking at new people, but she does listen well. New family willing to give her 24-48 hours to settle in and let her come to them. New family will work with her to continue to help her gain confidence to be the best girl she can be. She should have another dog in the home that will help model good behavior. She will, at least initially, need to be crated when family isn’t home or be ok with her getting into things and jumping on tables There must be belly rubs. There must be treats. She is VERY food motivated, so training goes well. We will even help with 2 training sessions with one of the trainers we work with. We know that Emma is going to be the perfect dog for someone. She is worth the work! If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the DRSF Online Adoption form. My adoption fee covers all my (prior) vet care (adopter receives vet records). Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
