Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). #A5790115 King is a 9-year-old, 87 lb neutered male German Shepherd who looks like the sweetest little bear. Surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him, King is friendly, social, and has so much love left to give. King walks nicely on leash, appears housebroken, and is good with other dogs, especially calm companions. He loves water (he jumped right into the pool!), takes treats gently, and will happily sit for his favorite salmon treats. His extra-thick coat could use a spa day, but underneath all that fluff is one handsome, happy senior. -9 years old, neutered male, 87 lbs -German Shepherd, brown and black -Friendly, social, and affectionate -Good on leash, housebroken -Good with calm dogs -Medium energy -Loves water and salmon treats -Ready for a loving forever home KING’S VIDEO: .youtube/shorts/kM16NFd4MyQ For more information, contact volunteer Lor at lorunitedhopeforanimals Photo Credit: Rafael Diaz ---- Look up this or other animals at Baldwin Park Animal Care Center animalcare.lacounty.gov/view-our-animals/ Use their unique ID NUMBER. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
