Description
Dog Breed: Husky. All PAWS cats and dogs are current on the vaccinations appropriate for their age. Those who are confirmed over 4 months old or older will have their rabies vaccinations. Age permitting, dogs/puppies are tested for heartworm disease. Cats/kittens are tested (and are negative) for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). All are treated with flea/tick prevention and given internal parasite preventative on a regular basis. The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy.
