Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Adoption Fee: $350 plus sales tax. We are an all-volunteer/foster home-based rescue. We DO NOT have a physical shelter. Meet Max, a 5-year-old dachshund who has decided that wherever you are is exactly where he needs to be. Max is deaf, but he’s learning hand signals and proving that he doesn’t need to hear you to know you’re his person. He’ll follow you everywhere, snuggle beside you for TV time, and strongly believes the bed is where dachshunds belong. He’s also a BALL-RETRIEVING PROFESSIONAL. Throw it. He’ll get it. He’ll bring it back. Throw it again. Congratulations, you now have a personal ball boy. Max loves walks, is doing great with his house training, and is working hard on his nighttime kennel skills. He’s sweet, devoted, cuddly, and just wants to be part of the action. His one non-negotiable? A fenced yard is required. If your idea of a perfect companion is a little sausage who wants to follow you, snuggle you, play ball with you, and basically supervise your entire existence… Max would like to discuss his résumé. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
