Description

Dog Breed: Husky. Meet Maya, a sweet 4.5 -year-old Husky mix! Maya is absolutely gorgeous with her beautiful fluffy white coat and brown spot detailing, combined with striking blue eyes - she truly can’t leave the house without getting a compliment (or two, or five!) Maya was born deaf, but it doesn’t slow her down at all. She can be a bit timid in large social settings like dog parks until she gets comfortable, but when she does she LOVES to play with dog pals! She’s very attentive to her person; she knows some basic hand commands for sit, come, and no, and is a quick learner if you want to teach her anything else. She loves to go for walks and hikes, and is really great on off-leash trails, always looking back and checking and never getting too far ahead. She’s a bit less vocal than a lot of huskies, but will bark and sing for you when she really wants your attention. She’s very sweet, loves giving out lots of kisses and snuggling in moderation, but also does her own thing and can often be found napping on the coolest part of the floor. She’s completely house trained and knows to only chew her toys. She doesn’t do well in close confinement like a crate or being closed in a room (a dog gate is a better option if she can’t roam around). She is also pretty reactive to cats - she just wants to play but doesn’t really pick up on the signals they give her, and has a difficult time leaving them be. Maya would do very well in a cat-free house where she can have free reign, ideally with another dog friend who will both play with her and hold their boundaries, and a person who will take her for lots of walks and exercise opportunities and be patient with her special quirks. She is a magical, beautiful, sweet, loving companion and would be an unforgettable addition to the right home. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is sponsored by Rebel Paw! Siberian Husky

A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:

The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
