There is nothing quite like seeing a pup go from heartbroken and hurting to happy, healthy, and deeply loved! You might remember little Wanda and her brother, Cosmo. When Stacy first took her in, Wanda was suffering from a severe case of mange (just look at that last photo to see where she started). But thanks to dedicated rescue care and her foster mom, look at her now! Here’s the latest update straight from her foster mom: "Little miss Wanda has come a long way. She's still waiting for a little hair to grow back, but she’s healthy, happy, and enjoying being in a home! She loves to run and play outside, and she absolutely adores her foster brothers. She is still working on potty training—she can hold her bladder for a long time, but seems to prefer going potty on a pad in her kennel than outside. She is a submissive girl who would do well in any household. She's great with dogs, trying kids this weekend, and hasn't tried cats yet!" A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
