Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Dale, the other half of this legendary Step Brothers duo! Dale is a chunky little dude who is equal parts sweetheart, goofball, professional cuddler, and part-time troublemaker. He’s happy, healthy, social, and incredibly friendly. He has been raised around kids and other dogs, so he’s already comfortable being part of the family crew. Dale loves playing with his brother Brennan, who is also available for adoption, getting attention, exploring everything he possibly can, and eating like he has a personal vendetta against an empty food bowl. He’s currently working on potty training, although he’s still got a few things to figure out. But don’t worry—he has his priorities straight: Eat. Play. Nap. Repeat. Dale will be ready to join his forever home starting September 29th! Until then, this little guy is hoping his invitation to join a family is already on its way. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
