Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Brennan—one half of the most adorable little Step Brothers duo you’ve ever seen! Brennan is a chunky little guy with a big personality, an even bigger belly, and absolutely no idea how cute he is. He’s sweet, social, friendly, and loves everyone. He’s been raised around kids and other dogs, so he’s already learning that life is better when you have friends to play with. Brennan spends his days doing the important puppy things: eating, wrestling with his brother Dale (also available for adoption), exploring, getting into a little trouble, and then passing out for a nap. He’s also working on his potty training because apparently even future legends have to learn where the bathroom is. He’s healthy, happy, and ready to find his forever family! Brennan will be available to go home starting September 29, so now is the time to get your application in. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
