When we first heard about 9-year-old Lobo, his owner was going through an incredibly difficult time and could no longer care for him. The message we received said: “I have a 9-year-old Chiweenie that I can no longer keep. I have recently been kicked out of my house and I’m not financially able to care for him at this time. I don’t have a vet at this time. Some things to note: he is not neutered and has possible dental issues.” They asked if we had room. Of course we said YES to this sweet boy. Lobo came to us needing the medical care he had gone without, and we made him a promise that we would take care of everything he needed. And now look at him! Lobo is officially FULLY VETTED AND READY FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! Complete bloodwork Neutered Dental surgery Vaccinations Gets along well with other dogs Lobo can be a little shy when he first meets new people, but give him a little time and patience and he warms up quickly. Once he realizes he’s safe, his sweet personality starts to shine. Because he can initially be unsure around new people, a home without young children would be best for Lobo. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
