Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat). Kiva is with our rescue partner in Louisiana is available to come to NJ if we find a foster or adopter. Kiva is a sweet older gal! Kiva is loving, trusting, and incredibly sweet. She leans into affection with quiet gratitude and gazes up at you with soft eyes that seem to ask for nothing more than kindness. She found herself on the euthanasia list and an adopter stepped up! Kiva has been so wonderful in their home and with their FOUR kids! She is phenomenal ... except she is not a fan of cats. So the adopters have offered to foster her until we can find placement, but they cannot keep her because of her dislike of cats. Kiva is fixed, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccines. She just completed her heartworm treatment and her adoption donation is $500. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home.

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
