Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, they often become very bonded. OTHER PETS: Bell is disinterested in other dogs, she will approach / sniff, but was more interested in searching for an exit than interacting with another dog. She would do best as an only dog, but Bell could get along with independent, well-socialized dogs that read cues well; she should meet any dogs she would be living with prior to adoption. [Solo Lobo / Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement, or a willingness to learn is best. Bell's ideal owner would be someone who has previously owned active dogs and also has experience with fearful dogs who thrive with enough to time to fully decompress in a new environment, and allowed to explore at her pace. [Experienced] KIDS: Bell is going to need a quiet home where the humans move slowly and predictably around her and everyone has the patience to let her set the pace for interactions. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bell may develop a wonderful bond with her owner that helps her shoot her confidence up to the point where she wants to go out and do new fun things with her humans. Currently, Bell still gets occasionally startled by a swinging leash when walking with trusted staff. Combining regular physical exercise with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, games, and learning new tricks, will keep her active and engaged to fully meet her needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Possible Olympic Hopeful] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Bell's coat clean & healthy. [Routine Brushing] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bell develop confidence, bond with her new owner, and learn new skills and fun tricks while setting her up for success.
