Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (medium coat). Might you want to be `Jesse's Girl`? We know Rick Springfield was singing about a girl who was already spoken for, but our little cow dog mix is single and ready to mingle! At 6 months and 35 pounds this fun loving adolescent already knows `sit` and `down` and walks well on a leash once he settles from the kennel. Based on volunteer observations, he goes to the bathroom right after he goes on a walk, so it seems potty training is going well. Speaking of walks, he is non-reactive to other dogs and has a warm, friendly demeanor. He still is in the puppy mouthy stage, so we make sure he has plenty to chew on. For example, as I write this bio, we are sitting in the volunteer room where he is quietly chewing on a rawhide bone that I had tossed in the crate. Come take this kid out on a Day Foster; you'll have fun and we can learn more about this guy who just got here last week.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
