Description

Dog Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Dodger, the 3 month old Catahoula mix pup. Dodger arrived to the Shelter as a stray, found by a good Samaritan in Watsonville. He had a rubber band tied around the base of his tail resulting in severe injury to his tail which required amputation. The surgery site is still healing so he is in a cone of shame for a bit longer and required to rest up until his stitches are removed. Adopters can chat with clinic staff if they have questions about Dodger’s healing or surgery. Now, more about this cute guy! He has been easy going and social with staff, even when he was feeling not so good. He is a soft, gushy puppy who leans in for attention with just about everyone. He is still perfecting typical puppy things for his age (potty training, leash walking, and age appropriate socialization). Adopters should ensure that they have the time and resources to help Dodger grow into a well rounded adult canine. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Dodger will need to have a separate space from the resident dogs where he can rest and heal (no running around or rough playing yet) so adopters should consider that in their adoption planning. A home with children or felines may be a fit with a slow, thoughtful introduction. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
