Dog Breed: Shih Tzu / Poodle (Toy) / Mixed (long coat). Meet Dolly! This sweet Shihpoo mix has officially retired from breeding life, and she’s flourishing in retirement. Dolly came from a breeder who retired her and sold her on Facebook Marketplace to a young man who soon realized he had more dogs than he could care for. Thankfully, he reached out to Worthy Dog to help find Dolly the forever home she deserves. At 5–7 years old and just 6 lbs, Miss Dolly has a full life ahead of her. She’s settled in quickly with her foster mom, Renee, and two other pups, and she’s finally discovering what it feels like to have security and be part of a loving family. Renee shares that Dolly is housebroken, crate trained, and getting better with her leash skills. She loves her people and would happily spend her day sitting on your lap. If you stop petting her, she’ll let you know she wants more. She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home and could be happy living with other dogs or as your one and only. Dolly is shy with new people and may bark when they first arrive, but she warms up once she realizes they’re welcome in the home. She’s more cautious around men, but she’s already making progress with Renee’s male neighbor, who has been coming by regularly to help her get more comfortable. She now accepts him, lets him pet her, and actually played with him and one of her toys! Renee recently took Dolly on her first public outing to Walmart, and she did great! She rode around in the cart, walked well when put down, and calmly stopped when her foster mom stopped. She was nervous when big dogs approached her, but with some patience, she can work through it and adapt. And she’s coming around fast! Renee’s grandsons (ages 7 to 13 years-old) recently had a stayover visit, and she adored them instantly. Dolly let them pet her, pick her up, and shower her with love. After a life spent breeding, Dolly is learning how wonderful it is to simply be a dog. And she’s pretty fabulous at it. ❤️ Coming to the DC metro in late Sept/early Oct.
