Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Gracie is a 4-month-old sweetheart who is as cute as can be and brings a joyful, playful spark everywhere she goes. She is around 15 pounds and will grow in the days ahead and is estimated to be a medium gal of anywhere up to 60 pounds. Like most puppies her age, Gracie is full of curiosity and playful energy. She loves playtime, exploring the world around her, and making new friends wherever she goes. Gracie is a Hound mix with a striking tri-color black, white and brown coat and warm brown eyes that are hard to resist. Gracie gets along well with other dogs and children, but she has not yet met a cat while in rescue. As always, proper introductions and supervision are important when introducing a young puppy to new animals and people. Gracie is doing well with her training and is learning all the important puppy basics, including house training, crate training, and walking nicely on a leash. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, she is sure to continue thriving as she grows. With the right family by her side, Gracie is certain to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
