Dog Breed: Terrier / Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Carly! Carly came to our rescue from a shelter (Huesito's Rescue) in Hermosillo, Mexico. We help out Huesitos Rescue from time to time when they are over-crowded, and a portion of each dog's adoption fee goes directly to that rescue. Carly was pretty shy when she first came to us but has really blossomed in the month she's spent with us so far. She will likely still be shy when meeting new people, but once Carly knows and trusts you, she will follow you around and seek out attention. Carly is a curious and cuddly dog who loves lap time with her human friends (and belly rubs!). Carly is social with other dogs and enjoys running and playing. Does your dog at home need a buddy? Bring them in to say hello to Carly! Carly is approximately two-years-old and weighs around 20-pounds. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
