Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). A Good Samaritan found this sweet little pup looking emaciated on the side of the road, and brought her to our vet's office for help. She's naturally a small dog but still needs to gain a few pounds to be at a healthy weight. She's now safely settled into her SC foster home, is filling out, and learning the rules of home life, and has a new name to start her new life. Sarah's foster mom shared this update: "Sarah is a very sweet pup who loves people and is great with my 13 year-old son. He can pick her up with no issue, and she enjoys sitting on laps and snuggling. She likes my dad too. She is a pretty confident, social dog who will run up to a new person to greet them. She enjoys other dogs' company, but has not yet learned to play with them. She absolutely loves to play fetch, and will bring the ball right back to you, and fetch it again 100 times! She's settled in with my smaller dogs, but has not yet met my cat. She did meet my son's rabbit and tried to chase it. Sarah is pretty calm for a young dog, and has a medium energy level. She can rest in her crate (with the door open) for three hours if she’s played fetch, and loves to lay out in the sunshine. I’m sure I could close the door to the crate, but I like her to have access to her water bowl. She barked in her kennel the first few days when I left her. I think she wanted to be with me. For the past two weeks, I can put her in her crate, and she will not bark. She may need time to adjust in a new home, but will catch on. I’ve walked her on leash a few times, and she did great. She seems to really enjoy going for walk. She had a few accidents the first few nights here, but has not had one accident in the past two weeks. I take her outside for potty breaks about 5 times a day. All around she's a social, friendly pup who would do well being the only dog or with another laid back dog as her companion." FOSTER UPDATE – 2/14/18 Sarah has only been with us for a few days, but I think we have a general idea of her personality and temperament. First, I would say she is potty trained. She had a couple accidents at first but all within the first 48 hours and no accidents since. She free roams in our house and we only crate her when we leave. She's not a huge fan of the crate but usually quiets down after a few minutes. She slept in the crate the first night, but then she convinced us to let her sleep on the bed and she sleeps through the night without incident. She walks well and confidently on the leash, but she can be a bit barky on the leash when she sees another dog, no lunging or anything. Sometimes when we walk her by herself she will just look attentively and not bark, so it could be she's feeding off our dog's energy since he still gets tense on the leash sometimes. We have noticed that she does like to walk with our dog, she also plays nicely with Rocket. As far as his presence, she doesn't seem to mind him and they will play together, but I don't think she needs to have another dog around. She’s much more people focused. I would say she is medium active. She plays fetch like a champion and likes to run, but she also loves to cuddle. During the day when Anthony is working she lays in his lap most of the day. She loves people and did not take very long to warm up to either one of us. She does like a lot of attention, so I think she would prefer to be with someone who could spend quality time with her (we think her dislike of the crate is more about the fact that she doesn't like being alone). Her personality is very spunky, she is very loving and goofy. We do have to keep an eye on her because she is very curious and a bit of a scavenger so we've been working on boundaries and she does understand "no," so the battle is half won. Something I do think is worth mentioning is that she is an exceptionally good climber and jumps much higher than you think she could so she's no match for baby gates--worth considering if her forever home has a fenced yard. I think she’d do just as well in an apartment as she would in a house with a yard. Honestly, she seems to prefer being indoors. As far as family type, we haven’t seen her around kids but Anthony and I discussed it and we think she would do better in a home without kids, or maybe with older kids. We think a family similar to ours (adults, no children), or one adult would make her happy, and perhaps to be the only dog. We also thought she’d make a great companion for an older household. We’re happy to be fostering her, she’s a great dog.” Breed: Rat Terrier/Chi mix Weight: 10 lbs (needs to gain 3 to 4 lbs) Age: ~2 to 3 years old Gender: Female Adoption fee: $350 Vetting: utd on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, treated for heartworm Location: Alexandria, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to adopt.worthydog and complete the application. Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Meet our sweet little folk trio Peter, Paul (brindle), and Mary (tan)! Peter (stumpy white feet), was brought into our vet and his owner was in tears because he had a prolapsed rectum and he didn’t have the money for surgery. When we offered to cover it, he cried and asked if we could help him rehome Peter and his brother and sister. So here we are, looking for homes for these adorable munchkins. Currently, they’re about 8 weeks old, so they’ll be available for adoption in apprx 6-8 weeks (late March/early April). We take apps at any time though, so please apply now: .causeforsbpaws/forms/form?formid=3251 Email cause4sbpawsgmail with questions.

    rescue
    Breed: Rat-Cha
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated and microchipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, .dpsrescue for an application. Our adoption fee is $400 for adults and $400-$600 for puppies (each puppy will list their individual adoption fee on the biography). * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: .facebook/DPSRescue This dog will be at Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, Feb. 23rd from 12pm-4pm and Sunday, Feb. 24th from 11-3pm or until adopted. However, we do meet with those who submit an application and are approved just prior to the event (by invitation only) and they are given the first opportunity to adopt. If you are interested in one of our dogs, we recommend filling out an application prior to the event to be considered. Applications submitted within 24 hours of the event may not necessarily be reviewed. Merry is a 2 year old Rat Terrier-Chi mix who we rescued from a shelter. She is both sweet and spunky, with just enough spice in there to keep you on your toes! Merry would make a great walking buddy for someone who wants to get moving and keep up the pace. She's petite, less than 10 lbs, but she can go-go-go when she's ready to roll, and is good on a leash. At home, she's ready to cuddle. She's a burrower and loves to dig herself a den in a pile of blankets. So far she hasn't had any accidents in her foster home- what a good girl! Merry is a bit dog-picky. She gets along with most dogs but every once in a while there's a pup she doesn't take a liking to. Potential adopters should bring their pup with them (if they own one) so that a proper intro and meet and greet can be done at our adoption event. With proper introduction and boundaries, Merry can definitely go to a home with another dog... but she'd be just as happy to be someone's one and only and get doted on day and night! Merry sleeps in a pen in her foster home, but we suspect she'd really love to sleep under the covers cuddled up with her new mom or dad. Merry is only an option for a home that has had a dog in the last 5 years. If there are children in the home, they need to be over the age of 8.

Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Meet Sydney! Sydney is a 1 year old female Rat Terrier/Chihuahua Mix. She is small girl weighing approximately 11 pounds. Sydney is a mildly active girl who just wants to hang out or play with friends in the backyard. She is a very sensitive but easy going girl. Due to severe neglect and no socialization with people she needs a gentle approach. She likes to cuddle and will happily lay next to you on the couch but will need time to warm up to you. Though very shy Sydney has been friendly towards her foster family and any people she has met. She has gotten along with dogs of all sizes but prefers small dogs or laid back larger dogs (she gets easily intimidated). She has done well with cats she has met. Sydney is a well mannered girl inside the house but has not quite gotten used to walking on the leash just yet. Sydney is crate trained and has started house training (doing very well). Sydney is looking for a special family! Are you looking for a special girl? The adoption fee for Sydney is $200 and includes exam, spay, up to date vaccines, deworming, heart worm prevention, flea/tick prevention, and microchip. Sydney currently lives in a foster home in Rutherford County, NC. To adopt Sydney please go to the following link and fill out an application. .leeshorerescue/adopt-now.html Thank you!
