Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Check Out My Very First Trip to the Beach!! https://youtu.be/fvhyzVvWub4 Young-Single-Brindle Female seeks Forever Family for long walks on the beach, hikes, strolls in the park, car rides, lots of treats and belly rubs! Hi! I'm Mara! I'm a 5 year old pit bull terrier mix who is on the hunt for the love(s) of her life!! Everyone who meets me says I have an infectious smile & happy spirit. I'm attentive and loving, and ready to be your number 1! I came to PAWS from Tennessee where my southern foster took really good care of me. But Tennessee didn't have these awesome things called adoption events. New England was where it was at so I packed my bags, hitched a ride on a transport truck and headed to my good friends at John Gagnon’s Pet Resort. I boarded there for a few months where I learned some valuable basic training skills like sit, down and recall. I am currently fostering in New England with an amazing foster family. They continue to work with me on my basic training and leash skills. When I wake up in the morning I go straight to the door and patiently wait for my foster dad to grab the leash and take me out to use the bathroom. I get plenty of treats and belly rubs and I show my love and appreciation with tail wags, butt wiggles, snuggles and kisses. On weekends I like to attend adoption events in hopes to find my people. Did I mention I LOVE car rides? I also love to go to the beach or park and chase a ball or frisbee and run out some of my energy. I also love to go on hikes! I don't completely ignore bicyclists and other hikers that we find along the way! Then I go home and take a nice long nap or snuggle with my foster dad. I would probably do best as your one and only. But I am currently living with a low-key, mellow male dog who I have come to adore!! We took it real slow and now we are best friends! I am not leash or crate reactive around other dogs so can easily be out in public or happily hanging out in my crate. In fact, my foster family and visitors are so impressed with my polite behavior around my foster canine brothers and other dogs on the street. I am looking for a forever family that is energetic and will take me for walks, runs or hikes but also loves naps and snuggle time. I need a family that will be disciplined, respect my canine to canine space, keep up with my training and mentally and physically challenge me. Let’s not waste another single day because I can’t even wait to meet you! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Now fostering in New England! Nala is as sweet as they come! This 2-3 year old labrador/shepherd mix was turned into Memphis Animal Shelter with her 9 puppies! She was an amazing mommy to her puppies but now it is time for her to be the baby and find her forever home! She is a very energetic dog and she wants an energetic family to match her personality. She would love a fenced in yard so she can run off some of her energy! She is very smart and is working on her basic obedience training. She is fostering with four other dogs and gets along well with all of them. She has not been around cats or children. Based on her personality, older children would be best! Nala is a great dog and is so deserving of an amazing family! Update from her foster mom 7/16: Nala has arrived! She is super sweet. She was a little nervous and unsure when she first arrived but became more comfortable when she met my dogs. They seemed to settle her nerves a bit. And she LOVES tennis balls!! Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Petey had a home if you consider being tied out in the back yard as a puppy, not even a year old, having a home. With no regular attention, training, or socialization Petey was growing big and strong with no manners. At least his owner had the good sense to call K9 Savior Foundation, and ask for us to take this sweet boy, when she was afraid his high energy might knock the kids down and hurt them. At the rescue, Petey spent his first year learning from the best dog buddies he could find Jack Black & Lady Belle, both wonderful PAWS Alumni. This gorgeous guy is the sweetest, most loving pup who ever lived! He’s a clown who LOVES to swim in the pond and play with female dogs at the rescue. He’s a fabulous foster uncle for the new puppies that come into the rescue, running around showing them the ropes, and laying patiently while they crawl all over him. Petey has a lifetime of love and slobbery kisses just waiting to share with some lucky someone! 6/24 Update: Petey is housebroken using a doggy door. He is calm and well behaved indoors but loves to run full speed when outside. We recommend Petey be crated when not supervised as he looks for something to chew when he’s bored. Petey is a very social dog and is happiest when he has a another dog to run and play with or when he is walking around with his foster mom. Check out his video! https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10208751708099698&id=1522178203 Name: Petey the Pit bull Breed: Pitbull Terrier Sex: Male Age: 2 years old Weight: approx 65 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date as of 3/26/2016 Heartworm: Negative as of 3/26/2016 Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Dogs: Enjoys playing with other dogs. Petey may be defensive when strange male dogs get too close to his face; however, with slow, proper introduction he has been fine with non-dominant male dogs. Petey has had 2 male dog playmates while in his foster home and done well. Good with Cats: No. Absolutely not. Good with Kids: Unknown. Not recommended around small children. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! PAWS New England has a special place in their hearts for senior dogs and Abagail is no exception!! This sweet girl lost her home in 2015 due to her owner moving and not being able to take her and her canine brother, Scruffy. Scruffy has since been adopted and Abagail patiently waits for her forever family to find her. Abby is one of those lucky ladies that doesn't look or act her age!! While she is a senior and very calm & laid-back, she does know how to have a good time. She greets adults and children with excitement and after a while she retires to a quiet place to rest. Abby loves to go for her daily walks and is very good on leash. She also enjoying trotting around her foster Mom's yard and stretching out in the sun. Abby would love a quieter home where she can spend her days relaxing and hanging out with her people. After proper introductions she does get a long with older, more mellow dogs. However, we think she'd love to be an only dog. And believe us, she has more than enough love to give! This sweet senior deserves nothing less than a fantastic home and we’re determined to find that for her!! Location: USA
Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Treeing Walker Coonhound / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Must have another friendly and confident dog in the home- no exceptions!! Channing was one of seven dogs rescued from a neglectful property in Tennessee. They grew up in a bleak backyard with no socialization, veterinary care, or human companionship. When their owners grew weary of the seven dogs, they called animal control to come and get them one by one. When Paws New England learned about this family of hounds, we simply had to get involved. We rescued all seven. Five have found their forever homes. Channing was one of the last to be rescued from the property. He spent months in boarding before moving into a New England foster home. Channing is blossoming in his foster home! His foster mom reports he's doing really well on his basic training. He's already mastered sit, go to bed and leave it. He continues to work on paw, down, come and watch me. He has learned to take treats gently and is completely house broken. Channing lives harmoniously live with his canine foster brother, Buddy, and 2 feline foster siblings! He continues to work on his confidence building, but we have big hopes for this boy! New situations or dogs can still be a little scary for him, but he's getting better every day! Channing is loves going for walks or long hikes with his foster dad. He's happiest when he gets plenty of exercise and play time! His foster mom reports that he loves walking around with his favorite stuffed animal in his mouth and it's absolutely adorable! Channing takes the lead from his friendly and confident foster brother, Buddy. We'd love to see him in a home with a friendly canine sibling to show him the ropes. In fact, this will be critical for Channing's overall longterm growth. He will need a patient and loving family who can make a commitment to providing him with the exercise his needs and the time he deserves to adjust to a new home. If you would like to be part of Channings fairy tale ending, we'd love to hear from you! She is a super sweetie pie who is very affectionate and loves being with people. She currently has 2 doggy friends in her foster home and enjoys chasing, running, and wrestlng with them. Because of the dog attack that brought her to us, Dixie can be defensive when strange dogs get close to her face. She requires slow, careful introductions to new dogs and may not do well in dog parks. Dixie would probably be happiest in a quiet home as an only dog or with one other dog. Dixie keeps her toys and bedding neat. She’s trained on a doggy door and only rarely has potty accidents. Dixie’s favorite past time is to sit on her bed and watch what’s going on around her. She is well behaved and calm when free to walk around indoors but gets very excited at meal time. Dixie has so much love to give and can’t wait to find a home to call her own! Check out her video! m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10207641557946638&id=1522178203 Name: Dixie Rose Sex: Female Breed: Pit bull, Rottweiler Mix Age: Approx 2-3 years old Weight: Approx 46 lbs Spayed/Neutered: Yes Vaccinations: Up to date Heartworm: Positive on 7/16/2016, treated 11/11 and 11/12 Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Dogs: Due to a past attack by vicious dogs, Dixie can be nervous and unpredictable around new high energy or dominant dogs. Dixie has done well with several dogs of different ages, breeds and genders that did not dominate her and were slowly introduced. We recommend Dixie as an only dog or in a quiet household with only one other dog. Cats: No Kids: Would do best in a home without small children Adoption Donation: $200 Visit our website below for an adoption application and answers to your most “Frequently Asked Questions: https://pawsnewengland.com/adoption-form/ https://pawsnewengland.com/adoption-process/ https://pawsnewengland.com/our-dogs-list For more information about this particular dog, please email: adoptions@pawsnewengland.com Please note: Paws New England is a foster-based rescue. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. send inquiries to mchen.pawsne@gmail.com Hi! My name is Mighty Max, Max for short!! I am Mighty on Love, Looks and Personality and if I do say so myself, I have a winning smile. I am looking for a family to call my very own; I love love love people! It does not take me long to impress anyone I meet because I'm a big ball of love!! I am crate trained, potty trained and have had no accidents in the house; I will give paw or sit very nicely for a treat and wait my turn without complaint. I am super gentle when taking treats too!! I'm also quite athletic but also a cuddle bug-- it's the best of both worlds! I also love to eat and empty my bowl at every meal. My fave thing to do is wiggle with excitement when it's time to get my harness on since I love my walks around the 'hood. I adore ear & belly rubs, and will gladly stay still for that! I also love a nice bowl of ice water on these hot days; laying under the ceiling fan with the A/C on is pretty awesome too. I used to foster with 6 canine sisters & brothers, and after a week of slow introductions they are my besties. I only bark when the others do, just because it's fun! In the shelter I did well with a cat, I just walked away when it swatted me. Can't promise that I'll like all cats, however! Won't you please consider adding me to your family? I promise years of love and snuggles. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Hound / Mixed. 4/28 Now Fostering in New England!! Roscoe and his sister, Diva (adopted), were living in a home with 12 dogs and cats. Unfortunately, their home caught fire and they were some of the lucky animals to make it out. When they escaped they lived in the woods for weeks until they could be caught. After arriving to the shelter they were absolutely terrified. They never showed an ounce of aggression, but would just freeze and tremble. A number of weeks have passed and both pups are starting to blossom! Roscoe is a handsome 1.5 year old hound mix. He's the perfect size at 45 pounds! Now, instead of freezing when people approach he happily wags his tail. He's never walked on leash in his life and he's starting to learn how to do that. He loves running in the yard with his sister, Diva. He's come such a long way in such a short period of time. We'd love to see him in a loving & patient home where he can continue to blossom. He absolutely needs another friendly and confident dog in the home to show him the way. His sister, Diva, has recently been adopted and we hope it will be his turn next!! We will continue to update his bio as we learn more! Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Hi! My name is Walter- Walter Reed- and I am looking for my forever home! I was found in a ditch along with my siblings- for some reason they all got spotted but I am still needing my forever home! I think it is my turn. My forst mom says I am pretty awesome! I just want to hang out right next to her ALL the time! I am a hound mix though so I love to smell- I smell everything- some would say I am the best smeller. I also like to play fetch, okay, okay I don't really do great at the bringing it back part but if you throw it I can keep it! I also love bones and snuggling with my foster family at night. I am working super hard on being potty trained. One of my best attributes is my double ear flap which is most pronounced when I run in the wind- its model style! I do NOT like loud noises. I don't know who invented fireworks but they are the worst. I get along with other dogs and one of my favorites is actually a cat! I am going to make the perfect companion. It takes me a bit to war up but once I warm up I will be your best fired! Please adopt me!!
