Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Check Out My Very First Trip to the Beach!! https://youtu.be/fvhyzVvWub4 Young-Single-Brindle Female seeks Forever Family for long walks on the beach, hikes, strolls in the park, car rides, lots of treats and belly rubs! Hi! I'm Mara! I'm a 5 year old pit bull terrier mix who is on the hunt for the love(s) of her life!! Everyone who meets me says I have an infectious smile & happy spirit. I'm attentive and loving, and ready to be your number 1! I came to PAWS from Tennessee where my southern foster took really good care of me. But Tennessee didn't have these awesome things called adoption events. New England was where it was at so I packed my bags, hitched a ride on a transport truck and headed to my good friends at John Gagnon’s Pet Resort. I boarded there for a few months where I learned some valuable basic training skills like sit, down and recall. I am currently fostering in New England with an amazing foster family. They continue to work with me on my basic training and leash skills. When I wake up in the morning I go straight to the door and patiently wait for my foster dad to grab the leash and take me out to use the bathroom. I get plenty of treats and belly rubs and I show my love and appreciation with tail wags, butt wiggles, snuggles and kisses. On weekends I like to attend adoption events in hopes to find my people. Did I mention I LOVE car rides? I also love to go to the beach or park and chase a ball or frisbee and run out some of my energy. I also love to go on hikes! I don't completely ignore bicyclists and other hikers that we find along the way! Then I go home and take a nice long nap or snuggle with my foster dad. I would probably do best as your one and only. But I am currently living with a low-key, mellow male dog who I have come to adore!! We took it real slow and now we are best friends! I am not leash or crate reactive around other dogs so can easily be out in public or happily hanging out in my crate. In fact, my foster family and visitors are so impressed with my polite behavior around my foster canine brothers and other dogs on the street. I am looking for a forever family that is energetic and will take me for walks, runs or hikes but also loves naps and snuggle time. I need a family that will be disciplined, respect my canine to canine space, keep up with my training and mentally and physically challenge me. Let’s not waste another single day because I can’t even wait to meet you! If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Black and Tan Coonhound / Treeing Walker Coonhound / Mixed. Fostering in New England!! Must have another friendly and confident dog in the home- no exceptions!! Channing was one of seven dogs rescued from a neglectful property in Tennessee. They grew up in a bleak backyard with no socialization, veterinary care, or human companionship. When their owners grew weary of the seven dogs, they called animal control to come and get them one by one. When Paws New England learned about this family of hounds, we simply had to get involved. We rescued all seven. Five have found their forever homes. Channing was one of the last to be rescued from the property. He spent months in boarding before moving into a New England foster home. Channing is blossoming in his foster home! His foster mom reports he's doing really well on his basic training. He's already mastered sit, go to bed and leave it. He continues to work on paw, down, come and watch me. He has learned to take treats gently and is completely house broken. Channing lives harmoniously live with his canine foster brother, Buddy, and 2 feline foster siblings! He continues to work on his confidence building, but we have big hopes for this boy! New situations or dogs can still be a little scary for him, but he's getting better every day! Channing is loves going for walks or long hikes with his foster dad. He's happiest when he gets plenty of exercise and play time! His foster mom reports that he loves walking around with his favorite stuffed animal in his mouth and it's absolutely adorable! Channing takes the lead from his friendly and confident foster brother, Buddy. We'd love to see him in a home with a friendly canine sibling to show him the ropes. In fact, this will be critical for Channing's overall longterm growth. He will need a patient and loving family who can make a commitment to providing him with the exercise his needs and the time he deserves to adjust to a new home. If you would like to be part of Channings fairy tale ending, we'd love to hear from you! I was rescued from an abusive situation and because of that I am very fearful. Thankfully these really cool people at a vet said they would foster me! I have been there for a few weeks and I am doing really well! They say I am one of the sweetest dogs they have ever met- I think that is obvious! I am very loving but because of my life so far I need a family that is understanding of some of my quirks. I am working on potty training but will need further training once in a home. I also had a run in with another dog so it is best if I can be the only dog in the house however I am currently living with another female dog and after slow and proper introductions she is doing well! I love playing with toys and chew treated. I ride well in the car.I also love running and walking! I would love an active family to call my own. Please consider giving me a chance. She is highly energetic, playful, and rambunctious. She still has lots of puppy energy and unbridled enthusiasm for life. Jesse would benefit from basic obedience training even though significant improvement has been made whilst in foster care. She will sit for a treat, to eat, or to be leashed up for her walks. She respects boundaries and does not jump up onto her human unless called to do so. She would do great in a home with another active dog(s) or, if by herself, with adults that could provide daily adequate exercise. To get ‘loving time', she is being taught to sit and be calm. She is very loving and eager to please her human. She has free roam of a beautiful, big fenced yard and loves to run and play. Jesse has good leash manners. She has zero food aggression during feeding times and is very good sharing her toys and bones with other dogs and people, even though she is competitive. Jesse would do well in an active home with energetic people who will spend time with her, love her, and play with her. She is currently fostering in Tennessee. If you are interested in adopting Jesse, please submit and application, and we will put you in touch with her foster dad for more information and photos. We would love to see Jesse find a forever home in New England soon! We have found that dogs in foster homes are much more adoptable because they have been observed in a home setting. You will be notified by the adoption coordinator of the location of the dog you are interested in so you have the ability to decide whether to pursue adoption or not. Dogs transported to New England are done so at a fee of $150.00 paid directly to the transporting company by Paws New England; no additional transport costs are responsibility of adopter. Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. We don't know Nick's story, but we can only imagine what he's been through. When he arrived at our partner shelter in TN he face was covered in cuts and wounds. Our best guess was that they were either bite wounds or perhaps wounds from a barb wire fence. Despite the obvious physical pain he was in Nick was an absolute sweetheart and won over the hearts of all of the staff! Nick has received all of the medical care that he needed and is recovering nicely! It's obvious that he had a family at some point as he knows sit and shake. He also enjoys going for walks and has good leash manners. Nick loves to snuggle and is easy, easy, easy to fall in love with. He does enjoy romping with his canine friends but does best with female dogs. He tends to get a little too bossy with male dogs. Nick has quickly become a shelter favorite and we just know you'll love him too! email: mel.pawsne@gmail.com Name: Nick Offerman Breed: Pit Bull Terrier-Border Collie Mix (best guess) Sex: Male Age: 2 years old Weight: 52 pounds Spayed/Neutered: Yes, on 9/12/17 Vaccinations: Up to date 9/6/17 Microchipped: Yes BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Children: Yes, due to jumping may do best with older kids Good with Dogs: Yes, does best with female dogs. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hello Everyone! Holly here! I’ve been in several different shelters over the past couple of years. As you can imagine, I was one really scared girl. At the last shelter, my shelter friends knew how special I was so they worked really hard to gain my trust and I slowly came out of my shell. I arrived at my foster home in New England in late September and shelter life is a distant memory. I’m never looking back and my friends at Paws New England will make sure I never see the inside of shelter ever again! My foster mom says that I am the best girl ever. I love to sit in her lap and lick her whole face. I am currently living with two small dogs and one medium size (who’s a pittie girl like me). We all get along fine and sleep in the big bed with foster mom. Here’s me and Oreo Wonderful (she’s on the website too) having some fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZNrVi-o66g&feature=youtu.be My foster mom loves me very much and she said she’ll be very sad when I don’t live here anymore. She said it’s her job though to help me find the forever home that I’ve always deserved. She said it’s a place where my family will love me, take care of me and I won’t ever have to leave. That sounds really good to me.
