A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Terrier / Bulldog. Please note that we can not guarantee the age, expected weight or breed of any animal. What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners Approx 2-3 yr old bulldog mix Sheba is a happy, cute bull dog, hound mix, about 2-3 years old, medium size, 55lbs, has a mostly black brindle low shed coat. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. Sheba is a classic, well behaved and sweet dog, without bad habits. She's house broken, crate trained, doesn't chew stuff, doesn't climb fences or escape...This pretty girl is fun to teach and train because she listens well; she has perfect energy! Her leash manners are good. Typical for her breed, Sheba has a very strong 'prey drive' which is a trait that can be controlled and redirected because she bonds so well with her human. Her sense of smell is amazing! Sheba may have a future career at the Charlotte airport sniffing out illegals or German sausage! Sheba has to be the only dog in the household: she is not good with cats, small dogs or even some dogs her size although she plays well with foster buddy, JP. With visiting dogs or the neighbors' dogs she needs to be kept apart for now. But she is not people selective! She is a little shy to new people but very friendly regardless. She most likely was abused and mistreated, but has opened up and is so grateful for her second chance; she loves to give away free doggie kisses. Sheba is a perfect travel companion; she looks at the car every time ready to go, even just to run errands. Then she makes a pretty 'date' on a patio sharing treats like cheese and crackers and loving attention! Sheba would like to be adopted by a responsible person or couple, someone who can continue to lead and train her and who has time and patience to continue doting on her, takes her for regular walks and who can make her a priority and part of his or her life for good! Sheba doesn't ask for much and will give so much more in return. She is great company and will make a true loving friend! If you would like to meet, adopt, find out more about this sweetie, please call or text me Renee, 704-737-7337 as she is located in SC but transport can be arranged. Thank you for your interest in giving Sheba a second chance! At the time of adoption a donation is required before the animal is placed in an adoptive home. $400 - All dogs $250 - For dogs deemed seniors by LCAR (generally 7 yrs and older) $150 - For senior citizens (over 65 yrs of age) adopting senior dogs $150 - For Saint Francis Farm Resident dogs $150 - For Kittens $100 - For Cats *IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS ANIMAL, PLEASE SUBMIT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ( Dog / Cat ) AND ONCE APPROVED, SOMEONE FROM THIS ORGANIZATION WILL CONTACT YOU. I can be a bit shy and cautious initially when I first meet up with you but I warm right up within a couple hours. I am a sweet, gentle love bug who has a lot of energy and loves to play. I am very well house trained, eager to please, and obedient. I am picky about my friends so it would be ideal if I found a home where I can be the only pet. I am not a big fan getting into my crate initially, but once I am in I settle down very quickly and sleep. I no longer pull hard on my leash, as my foster mommy worked with me each and every day. If you like to go out for a drive once and a while, well you're in luck as I love car rides I am up to date on all my vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. So no worries on that! I have been in foster care with my rescue since January and I am not sure as to why I have not yet been adopted. I really want my loving fur-ever family and I am hoping each and every day for it!!
