Posted Breed: Pomeranian (long coat). Max is a purebred Pomeranian. He has been on a diet since coming to rescue, and has now reached his ideal weight of 9 pounds. He has a beautiful blonde coat. Max is current on all his vaccinations and has been neutered. Max tested negative for heart worm and is on preventative. He gets along very well with all the dogs. He is also super with the cats. Max is crate trained and house trained. Max was surrendered to rescue because he likes to mark his territory. Your donation for Max's $75 adoption fee is tax deductible. K9HAVEN Rescue requires a fenced yard (no underground fencing, please) an adoption application, personal and vet references, home visit and an adoption contract. Max will not be placed in a home with very young children. Please contact us if you have any questions about Max.

More About Pomeranian Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Carson

      Breed: Pekingese
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: Broken Bow, NE
Posted Breed: Pekingese (medium coat). Is this a face to love, or what !! Carson is a handsome little Pekingese boy, about 9 and 1/2 years old. Carson was brought into rescue from an area shelter. In the noise and fear at the shelter he nipped at a shelter worker, so he could not be adopted from there. We have found that Carson is blind in his left eye from an untreated ulcer (most likely). If approached from his blind side in unfamiliar surroundings he may have attempted to protect himself. Since he came to rescue he has made no attempt to nip anyone. Carson has been neutered for many years. He has had all his vaccinations and has been checked for heartworm (which was negative). He is currently receiving drops in his blind eye to relieve irritation. He doesn't mind this treatment at all and the drops are very inexpensive. On March 18th, 2009 the folds under his eyes were surgically reduced to cut down on irritation to his eyes. Carson is social enough with the other dogs and cats in rescue. He can be cranky if he thinks they are thinking about crawling into bed with him - he sleeps alone .... unless it's his idea. He will crawl in with Vinnie on occasion. He is just fine with the cats. He is fairly cautious around new people. He seems to identify with our bashful boy, Vinnie. Carson is house trained and uses the doggie door faithfully. However, he has been known to mark when new dogs are coming in to rescue. Carson is leash trained and loves to go walking with you. He is frightened of thunderstorms, something we had not noticed until this spring. He loves to be held, loved and talked to. You will notice that Carson has a new summer haircut - which he likes alot. K9HAVEN Rescue requires an adoption application, references and a home visit prior to adoption. Rescue requires a fenced yard (no underground fencing, please), and an adoption contract. We prefer a home without young children due to the blindness in his one eye. Carson's adoption fee is $75. K9HAVEN Rescue is a 501(c)3 rescue, and Carson's adoption fee is tax deductible. If you can't adopt at this time, maybe you would like to sponsor Carson during his stay in rescue. On PetFinder, please click on the "Sponsor" tab at the top of the page.

      Location: Broken Bow, NE
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu (medium coat). Ivy is a pretty little Shih Tzu girl. She came in as a matted mess, so her hair has been trimmed very short. Ivy is house trained and lives very nicely with other dogs and cats. She is very timid and shy and most likely deaf. She clearly has not been used to being handled. She will allow me to pick her up and will sit on my lap as long as I want her there. She loves her treats and meal time, and will follow me everywhere. She needs a new home that is quiet, and has the patience to teach an older dog about love. Ivy has had a dental, she is current on all her vaccinations and has been spayed. She is heart worm negative and has been on preventative. K9HAVEN Rescue requires a securely fenced yard (no underground fencing, please), an adoption application, personal and vet references, a home visit and an adoption contract. K9HAVEN Rescue is a 501(c)3 rescue. Ivy's adoption fee is $75. K9HAVEN Rescue does not normally adopt to homes with small children.
