Our farm hands have produced a litter of 4 girls! The mother, “Cookie”, is a Standard Rat Terrier and the father, “Francis”, is a Decker Hunting line Rat Terrier. These dogs are valuable members of our farm and provide vermin control that is second to none. They live to hunt and perform far better than any cat I’ve ever owned. They are durable, friendly, and great with our children and various livestock. The parents are effective predator deterrents and protect our poultry by taking care of the problem themselves or alerting the larger guardians if it is something they cannot manage. The puppies are 11 weeks old and ready for new farms. These are not registered show stock but rather capable farm dogs that are members of our family. We offer them at a price point that allows and farm or family that needs one of these wonderful puppies to purchase one of ours and put them to work. The Rat Terrier is a lively and intelligent American breed, originally developed in the early 20th century from a mix of Fox Terriers, Old English White Terriers, and other small terriers, primarily for farm work and pest control. These compact yet sturdy dogs typically weigh between 10-25 pounds and stand 10-18 inches tall, boasting a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of patterns, often with large patches of color over white. Known for their energetic and inquisitive nature, Rat Terriers are remarkably adaptable and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. While their boundless energy necessitates regular exercise and mental stimulation, they can thrive in apartments provided their needs are met. Generally a healthy breed, they have a lifespan of 12-18 years, though some may be prone to patellar luxation or Legg-Calve-Perthes disease.
