Description

Juno is a 3 year old AKC golden retriever male who had a rough first 2 years of life. He was produced by us and we were contacted to reclaim him after hurricane helene displacement. Unfortunately, at pickup it became clear that he had not received appropriate care. He was emaciated and had spent his life as an outside dog, alone. Consequentially, socialization was lacking and he exhibited food aggression. He has been with us over a year now and while he has definitely fattened up (a bit too fat!) some scars run deep. He no longer resource guards with us, and eats gently out of our hands. However, we found that when he is placed outside of the home he experiences regression with new people. No human bite history, but does posture over his food and growls and may become aggressive towards unknown dogs. He also used to chase and retrieve cats and poultry and while he no longer bothers our cat, this is another concern as it relates to new and unknown small animals. He also prefers to spend the majority of his time outdoors, sunbathing on the deck and exploring his domain. Juno is seeking a quiet life in a home without children or other pets (he may get along with a female companion but introductions should be slow and food seperated to start.) He is seeking a gentle and patient person, willing to give him time to learn to trust in a new environment. He is truly a good boy with so much love to offer, but his initial apprehension has worried prior placement attempts and we are not equipped to foster him forever. He desperately needs someone to see past his trauma, who will give him time to show them all of the love he has grown to show us. *Neutered *Up to date on vaccinations *Crate trained *House broken *Will come with 50lb bag of food *Will come with xxlarge used crate.
