Posted Breed: American Bulldog (short coat). We show our dogs by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting Bear, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.petfinder. Bear is the sweetest lab/pit mix. He’s a shy, lazy big puppy that loves his walks, playing with other dogs, snuggling and sun bathing outside. Bear was abused by his last owner so he’s scared of everyone he firsts meets. Once he warms up to someone he loves to cuddle up next to them while he takes one of his many naps throughout the day. Since Bear suffered so much trauma with his last owner he’s still learning how to be a dog. He mimics his 2 sisters every move. They also are his best friends and safety blankets. Bear would need to be in a home with another dog. He would also do best in a home without a lot of commotion. Due to his previous trauma he’s very skittish of loud noises and a lot of movement. Bears owners are rehoming him because they are having a baby and have decided that they can't keep him now that they are going to be busy with the baby and having people over often, which is stressful for Bear as it takes him a while to warm up to new people. Bear is an extremely sweet dog that just needs a little emotional support and patience. He is smart and would benefit from continued training. Bear does great at doggy daycare and would make a great playmate for another dog.

American Bulldog
Overview:
Originally used in the 17th century for bull baiting—a wagering sport in which dogs fought bulls in a ring—Bulldogs had taller, more athletic frames (much like the Olde English Bulldogge). When bull baiting was outlawed in 1835, Bulldogs were bred to be kinder, heavier and more relaxed. However, American Bulldogs—which were brought to the U.S. before this breeding pattern—retained the size and strength of the original Bulldogs. Great family dogs, American Bulldogs are sweet to children. They love family-oriented occasions and want to be involved. With proper training and socialization, you’ll find them outgoing and exceedingly loyal. Some American Bulldogs will go to great lengths to protect their masters. Tough and determined, American Bulldogs have an impressive stamina and strength. They are always game for playtime in the back yard or working in the field.
