Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Hi, I'm Bellamy and I am THE HAPPIEST dog in the world. Do you like to wake up slowly to smooshy-faced kisses over a cup of coffee and Good Morning, America? If so, I'm your man! I'm quite a snuggler and love to give big huge Pit Bull hugs. I've never met a stranger. I'm also great at entertaining you while I entertain myself. Foster mom just loves when I run zoomies up and down the stairs tossing my toys to myself. I completed a Canine Good Citizen class with my foster mom and got a certificate! It was fun and I love to focus on my human and show you what I can do. I've been through some rough times and at one point broke my elbow (vets say it was repeatedly) and it has grown back wrong. It has been fully evaluated, but vets think I'm not in pain and that nothing should be done to correct my occasional limp. It does not affect my ability to run, jump and play. I'm neutral with other dogs when I'm on leash, but I can get a little overly excited sometimes, so foster mom thinks it would be best if I was the only dog in the home. If you would like to meet me, please complete an online Adoption Application at www.outpaws.org/adopt.

More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

They call me a potcake because that's the nickname the island people have given to us street dogs. I'm good with other dogs and very affectionate and outgoing with people. I'm learning all kinds of puppy things like crate-training and housebreaking. If you would like to meet me, apply online at www.OutPaws.org/adopt

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Hi, I'm Simon. I'm a 5-6 year old chocolate Labrador Retriever. I was picked up as a stray in New Mexico in a rural area. I love to retrieve things -- shocking, I know! OutPaws has discovered that at some point in my young life, I suffered a broken back. It's all healed and doesn't cause me any problems, but my adopter should be willing to keep me on some anti-inflammatories and some supplements to help me as I age. After living on my own on the streets injured, I really need a home where I can be the only pet -- maybe a couple or family whose always had one Lab, likes to go for walks and play ball, and is content with letting me play in my own yard rather than going to dog parks that I find overwhelming. I'm a lover with people and will steal your heart the moment you meet me. I'm just a typical loyal, playful, fun Lab! If you think you might be my forever family, apply online at www.OutPaws.org/adopt

Posted Breed: Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Hi! I'm Sumo. Yep, the same Sumo you've heard so much about. I got scared my second night in town and went on the run. I was lost for 5 weeks before OutPaws with lots of help from Centennial Animal Control and the neighborhoods I was wandering in found me. It's so good to be safe in a foster home. Unfortunately my hip is messed up so I'll be having surgery, then I'll be on the road to recovery and ready to find my forever home. I'm good with all other dogs, very social, I'm a great lap pet and I like to hang out ad he with my person. I'm a small boy--about 28 lbs. My foster mom says I'm pretty perfect and definitely worth all the trouble every one went to. I'm housebroken, crate-trained and food-motivated. If you would like to meet me, apply online at www.OutPaws.org/adopt and my foster mom will get I touch after my surgery.

Posted Breed: Shepherd / Retriever / Mixed (long coat). Hi, my name is Polo and I'm a 4 year old Potcake from the Bahamas. What's a "Potcake" you say. A potcake is a street dog from the Caribbean--the people of the islands have a tendency to throw the mixture of rice and peas that forms a cake in the bottom of the pot to us street pups so they nicknamed us potcakes. I'm great with other dogs and friendly with people. I do have heartworm disease, but have started treatment and will be just like new in no time! I'm a sweet young girl who was born with an unfortunate condition called a class 3 malocclusion--which means I have a really bad underbite to the point that it's difficult for me to get enough food to stay nourished. I'm very lovable, but there wasn't really any hope for me at the shelter. I'm traveling from the Bahamas to Denver so I can get dental surgery. I also have heartworm disease and will be receiving treatment for that as well. I'll be like new once my treatment is done!!
