More About American Pit Bull Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Hi There! I am Lucas, a 5-year-old pit bull mix. I am an adorable, squat, little boy who just loves to be a goofball and to play with my toys. I behave like a puppy in many ways, so I would do best in a home that will train me. I am learning to not be mouthy, but I still need work with this. I sometimes can be pushy about wanting my food, and I can be a bit territorial, so we are recommending a home with no young children. I am good in my crate and have not had many accidents, but a refresher in house manners in my new home will help me stay successful. I enjoy playing and wrestling with my foster mom's dog, and have been around many dogs, however a meet and greet with any possible new canine friends will be needed. I am very treat motivated and love to learn new things. I also love to cuddle in my foster mom's lap and get belly rubs. My foster mom pretty much thinks I am the most amazing guy and would love to tell you all about me. Come meet me soon and we could be playing together in no time! We do not have a facility for you to visit. She had a large growth on her side and was taken to the vet where we also discovered she was heartworm positive. Since then, the mass has been removed and her heartworm has been treated. She is looking for a very special home that will understand her situation and spoil her. We just know someone out there show her the love she deserves for the rest of her life! She is a very wonderful and affectionate girl. She has made it this far and now she is looking for a family to help her live her life out to the fullest. If you are interested in meeting Willa, please fill out an application. Also, her new family will receive assistance for her food and medication (medication is $30 a month). Posted Breed: Terrier / Retriever / Mixed. My name is Juniper Berry (Junie B, June Bug, momma beans) and my foster family has spoiled me! I came to them pregnant, had 6 puppies Christmas morning and now am eager to have my own family. I absolutely love to play with toys, I am fostered with another female and male dog and get along great with them. New dog introductions take me a few minutes but then I just want to play with everyone! I love to go for walks and am learning how to walk nice on a leash cause I am just so excited to go! I love to run so a fenced yard is a must! Squirrels drive me crazy so I am not sure how I would do with cats. I love to be by my foster mom the most and am very loyal. But mom was on vacation so I learned to cuddle with dad and it's pretty fun :) Since I’ve been in my foster home I have learned to ring the bell or paw at the door to go outside. No accidents in the last month in the house! I am not a huge fan of my crate but once I am in there, I settle down. I'm nervous in the car but will go if I have too. I am looking for a special home who will love me and spoil me lots. If you think that could be you please fill out an application and come meet me! I promise to melt your heart. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. *Do not contact CCRC for this dog, please contact the foster whose info is below* Talia is an abandoned pup who needs her forever home. Talia was left staked in an unfenced corner yard when her former owners moved. She has been fully vetted, and had her shots and dewormer. She is heartworm positive, and so won't be ready for placement for a month as she will be treated for heartworm before going home. She's very gentle, and needs her forever home. Please help me help this pup. She is barely one year old. Half of her left ear was lost to frostbite !! She will need to be an indoor only dog !! Passed all temperament tests, shows no food aggression when hand fed solo or given a treat in the presence of other (FIVE) dogs. NOT CAT FRIENDLY! Very dog tolerant, and good with sensible kids aged 4+. She took her bath well (-ish, she wasn't thrilled but behaved). In three days she has learned 'sit', 'get down', 'hush whiney baby', and not to tow me on the leash. Very affectionate, tried to be in my lap for the drive back. She's a pocket pit, weighs 46#. STRONG, all muscle, but small framed. Very eager to please, and super smart. Is very sweet. If you know of any good, reliable, kind humans looking for a dog, this is the one. She will be fully vetted and heartworm treated by the end of April, and ready for placement. He was born in Colorado where his Dad fell in love with and adopted him at eight weeks old. His name is short for Palivicci, one of first chair lifts erected in Summit Valley, Colorado! He has lived in Michigan The last four years, and he became a huge Daddy's boy! Sadly, this last summer, his father was killed in a tragic accident and Pali was left alone. He is a 4 1/2 yr old Red-brindle pit/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, he has been neutered and he is updated on all of his vaccinations and shots. He's a typical, stubborn little boy, who loves to run and play and go for long walks! He's a little lovebug and absolutely loves to cuddle. He's used to a crate when nobody is home. Pali is more of a man's dog, he doesn't do well with cats and gets so excited that he can be clumsy and rough around little children! He was temporarily in a home with an electric fence and he did not do well with that boundary. He's used to a large farm area where he had room to run and chase squirrels, and he will bolt right through an electric fence. He's a wonderful, personable, loving companion and he is looking for a wonderful new person to love. Please contact leroux_michele@comcast.net if you are interseted.

I am full of lots of puppy energy and would love to keep you entertained all day long playing with all the toys I can! I would probably be happiest in an active family who would take me on walks and/or runs with them. Once I get comfortable with you I am SUPER sweet and affectionate. I give kisses, snuggles, and hugs! I am a little too curious to be in a home with smaller animals i.e. cats, small dogs but with the proper introduction I will make a great play mate with larger dogs. I am just as charming as I am good looking once you get to know me. Exercise is a must for me and some basic training would help me out a lot too! I have been doing wonderful with house training at my fosters house and am good in my crate as well. My foster mom thinks I am a total goofball but knows that I would be the most loyal and loving companion to my forever family. Are you looking for a medium-sized active companion? Look no further!
