Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Don't let that serious face fool you! Lovely lady Zoe is such a laid back and happy girl - her entire back end wiggles with excitement when she meets new human and doggie friends. Zoe is very well socialized and free roams with 3 other large dogs in her foster home. Zoe also does super well with her human foster sister, a toddler. Zoe takes treats very gently and sits to be petted. Her favorite spot is the couch and she loves to snuggle with you! This sweet gal would blend well into just about any home - how about yours??? Dogs in our foster care program are: spayed/neutered microchipped up to date on all vaccinations negative for heartworms and on regular heartworm preventative OR recently treated for heartworms and on regular heartworm preventative (It can take up to 6 months for a dog to test negative for heartworm after treatments. We will provide you all the medical documentation regarding the pet's treatment.) in loving foster care homes where they have received training and socialization to help them fit into your home more quickly. There are a few steps to set up the adoption. Complete the Adoption Application online. The online application is a web-based form that should be accessible on Mac, PC, tablet or other mobile device. If you'd like us to send you a PDF via email, we can do that too! If you are meeting us at an event, you can complete the application at the event itself. We require the application in advance so we can get to know a little more about you, and for better safety of our fosters and the dogs. Schedule a home visit. After the adoption application is received, a volunteer from PAWS for Irving Animals work with you to find the best time to meet the pet. Depending on your schedule and the schedule of the pet's foster parents, this might be at a scheduled adoption event (Adoption Events), an area park, or your home. If that initial visit goes well, a volunteer will visit your home with the pet you are interested in adopting. We will ensure that the pet you are interested in has the opportunity to meet all the members of your immediate family, including other pets, to ensure that this adoption is a good fit. We can even do a trial adoption for a period of up to 3 days if you would like. (Note: If you choose to do a trial adoption, we will hold a check for the full price of the adoption fee until you make your final decision. If you choose not to adopt, we will return the check to you when we pick up the dog.) Pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $200 for dogs under 12 months and $150 for dogs over 12 months of age. The adoption fee covers many elements: full vetting (spay, vaccinations, etc), registration of microchip to you, etc. You have 3 options for payment: Via check. This can be either given to foster/volunteer at adoption hand-off or mailed as a check made out to "PAWS for Irving Animals" with "Adoption - DOG NAME" in the memo line. The check can be given to PAWS representative at time of adoption. Online at https://pawsforirvinganimalsllc.cloverdonations.com/adoption/ . Be sure to select the correct amount - $200 for dogs under 12 months and $150 for dogs over 12 months. You can pay via PayPal as a "Friends & Family" transfer to PAWSforIrvingAnimalsLLC@Gmail.com

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Breed: Boston Terrier-Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier / Boston Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Darla came into the Irving Shelter in April 2016. She spent 3 weeks in the shelter, and was marked Cautious. PAWS for Irving Animals rescued Darla before her time was up. Darla joined foster care late April 2016, and began showing signs of many behavioral issues that reminded us of her cautious label. Darla had severe anxiety, fear aggression, and insecurities that was not the right fit in her foster home. Darla was sent off to Board and Train where the trainer worked in her for 2 months, and noted that she was capable to be moved into foster care again. Her current foster mom went to pick her up and brought her home. Just in a few short days, Darla started showing the behavior that we sent her to training for, and we weren’t sure if there was a right fit for Darla anywhere. After a week of evaluations with many behaviorists, her foster mom had come to see a special spark in Darla’s behavior. After months of behavior training with the help of various trainers, her foster mom dig deeper than she ever could to help Darla. After 7 months, Darla is such a wonderful dog. She’s capable of relaxing, enjoying strangers, and living carefree. All we have left is to find her a home where she could be spoiled rotten after the life she had to face. IMPORTANT: This animal is NOT at Irving Animal Shelter. This dog has been rescued by PAWS for Irving Animals and is currently in foster care. Posted Breed: Dachshund / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Pretty girl Penny is an 8yr old miniature dachshund mix, weighing in at 14lbs. When she first came into foster care, she was severely anemic - so much so that the vet was shocked that she was alive based on her bloodwork. Through months of medication, Penny has proven that she has a strong will to live...and a big love for treats! Week by week and month by month she gained strength and she finally has normal bloodwork! As a middle-aged lady, Penny likes a laid back lifestyle...particularly if that means she gets to be laid back with one of her favorite humans! Penny likes to walk on a leash but she also loves to be carried and cuddled. Her ideal day is a short walk and then some relaxation time with her human, followed by a nice nap and a treat. Penny can be a little slow to warm up and prefers a quiet, calm environment. We think she would really thrive in a home without young children. She will need to remain on medication to ensure that her blood levels remain normal. IMPORTANT: This animal is NOT at Irving Animal Shelter. This dog has been rescued by PAWS for Irving Animals and is currently in foster care. To set up an appointment for us to bring the dog to meet you, please follow the instructions below. Meet Maggie Moo! Maggie Moo is a 6-7pittie mix female who LOVES to snuggle. Maggie Moo is probably the most gentle spirit you've ever met. She has a very easy-going, low key personality - she's just happy to be by your side. Maggie Moo can be a little shy on her own, so she really likes to be around other dogs - she watches them to learn the rules of the house and which humans offer the best treats. If she can't be with other dogs, she likes to have a soft, stuffed toy by her side for confidence. Maggie Moo is quiet by nature, and walks very easily on the leash. It's so easy to fall in love with this mild-mannered sweetie. IMPORTANT: This animal is NOT at Irving Animal Shelter.
