Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). It seems as though Jazzy has had a little bit of a hard life in the beginning, but she doesn't hold anything against people. She is a 4 yr old very sweet girl who loves to snuggle on the couch with you. She's loving and sensitive, freely giving kisses. She walks extremely well on her leash and is very obedient and hardly notices another dog walking. Jazzy loves to play with her toys! Balls, ropes, toys, the squeakier the better. She needs positive reinforcement and soft touches, with kind voices. Loves men as well as women and is gentle with children (when not playing). She wants nothing more than to be your favorite girl. Jazzy is a good girl barking only at suspicious sounds. She would love a new home that allows her to be with her humans most of the time however she is very trustworthy when left in the house for 5 or 6 hours and has never torn anything up. She has never had an accident in the house either. Jazzy takes treats softly and loves to be a good girl in the car. Please give Jazzy a warm, loving home. If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Hello, my name is Cinco. I'm a 4 year old Min Pin Mix. I'm a neutered male, weighing 12 lbs. I'm potty trained and I listen quite well. I'm learning the command "go" and am eager to learn more. I'm extremely docile, sweet and affectionate. I love to cuddle and spoon. And my favorite thing in the whole wide world is to burrow underneath the blankets. But not to worry, i'm also crate trained and will sleep/stay in my crate when I need to. Sometimes noises like the doorbell, the printer, gardners or knocking on the door can make me a little nervous and cause barking, but I take to corrections very well and a reminder that it isn't so scary is all I need! I'm really a loving, excellent dog. I'm so so affectionate and sweet. Could you be my forever family? Posted Breed: American Bulldog / Mixed (short coat). Mr. Smiley is my nickname, looking happy is my game! I am an 8 year old grey/white American bulldog mix, weighing 87 lbs. Everyone who meets me compliments me on my big, sunshiny smile and wants to hug my broad, muscly neck. I am a handsome guy who radiates with happiness when you pay attention to me. I love being with my people and meeting new people. I may look tough but I'm really a softy and love to have my behind scratched and to flip on my back and have my belly tickled. I would love a real swimming pool as I love to jump in my foster's kiddie pool and dunk my head and bite at the water. I have a silly side and will run in donuts, chase toys and balls. I am always up for an adventure and jump in the car, ride shotgun or sit quietly in back, beaming my cheeky grin. I love getting chicken nuggets from "Chik-fi-let"! I am an "alert woofer" but not a big barker. I prefer the company of calmer, medium and small sized dogs if introduced properly. I am good on a leash and listen to my handler, even when another dog acts aggressive towards me. I like cats a little TOO much but I've learned they're off the menu and listen to my foster even when they're pretty close. I really want to please. I love sleeping in a crate on a soft bed and i am housebroken. I prefer to be inside with my people. My foster mom says I am very powerful so although I'm very gentle and calm most of the time, I need a physically strong person and probably older children. I know "Sit, Wait, leave it, car, come, crate, outside," sit nicely for treats and my meals. If you are looking for an all around awesome buddy that makes you smile, then BRAVEHEART is your dog! Watch him with his baby pool! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z7Qzz84DvU More of Braveheart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g0TtY5-oJY If you are interested in adopting, please go to our website and complete the adoption application: http://www.icaredogrescue.org/ready-to-adopt/ Adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter * shots up to date * micro-chip * fecal and vet check

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). My name is MISTER! I am an 9 year old, 12 pound Chihuahua mix! While I am happy to be part of a one dog family, I get along well with my foster siblings. I have discovered I like the touch of a human although I lived on my own for quite some time. I am pretty independent unless you want to scratch me where I like it or you have a little treat in your hand or want to take me for a walk. Did I mention I like to be scratched? (I never knew this until recently) I have spent a lot of time on my own in inhospitable surroundings so I am a little rough around the edges sometimes. A good Samaritan found me tied to a road sign in Mt Baldy and it was the beginning of the good life for me!) . While I may be approaching middle age (I am 8 years old as per my vet). I have plenty of energy and a literal spring in my step to be a member of a forever family. My foster parents think I am a very clever and quick to learn and I am their favorite escape artist. I am house broken most of the time but need occasional reminders about the difference between indoors and outdoors because I have spent so much time living on my own. I have learned that humans can be sweet and kindness is wonderful! I am ready to be adopted by the right family, couple or person but please remember, I like my coffee strong, light and with a touch of chocolate, as I must confess I am a coffee thief (that is what my foster mom calls me when I take a sip or 2 or 3 of her coffee). Dakota is a beautiful 1 year old lab mix who is extremely sweet and playful! She is very strong and could use some basic training but she is a doll! She has been spayed and has all of her shots. She hasn't been around other animals yet, but she's very friendly, loves attention and acts like a lap dog! She sleeps in a crate at night. She does tend to howl at times when she wants in the house. She will need some leash training too. Dakota has had seizures so she has been put on medication and it's all under control at this time. She is a very sweet dog who loves attention, please give her the chance to show you how awesome she can be! We think she would like a companion to play with too! Posted Breed: Maltese / Chinese Crested-Powder Puff (long coat). Meet REX! *courtesy post - contact Wendy via email at teddy7782@aol.com for adoption info! Rex is a very sweet Maltese/Chinese Crested mix with soft cream white hair and big smiles! He is good with other dogs, cats, and children. He loves to sit and cuddle next to you on your lap and at night in bed at your feet. He is very loving and loyal. We adopted him in 2009 when he was 1 years old. He is around 8 years old and very healthy he has never had any health issues. He is up to date on Rabies, but he needs his other vaccines and we are going to get him a dental cleaning. The issues he needs to work on are his aggression towards some new people, not all. He needs time to warm up! He also does not like having a harness put on him and has high energy which is good but can be high strung. He never had aggression or growling issues or issues with putting on a harness or touching in a certain way, but one time he got off his leash and a neighbor picked him up by his neck to catch him, and another time he was kicked by an ABA therapist when he was just standing near door because the lady did not like dogs. Our vet said he might have to go on medication to calm down to do a professional grooming although he does tolerate baths we just leave a leash on him all the time to help with these issues. He is very intelligent and easily trainable. Contact Wendy via email at teddy7782@aol.com for more information!

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Bonded brothers Pudge and Sarge Owner passed away and need homes Both are males, neutered, 10 yrs old, crate trained and house trained, are up to date on vaccinations and love to play. Both are brothers from the same litter. They have been together since pups. Pudge LOVES a tennis ball... he will get territorial over his ball, but neither dog has any issues with being around other dogs. Pudge has a scar with missing fur on his side from an injury when he got caught in a fence when he was smaller. Sarge loves to play but will slow down when his knees start to bother him. He is on thyroid medication, pain meds for his knees and I just had dental work done on his last month. Both dogs loved to be petted and be around people. These are great dogs that my dad loved unconditionally. They do well with kids, other dogs and would thrive in a family situation where they can be walked and play. Posted Breed: Miniature Pinscher / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Meet TUBBY! *courtesy post-contact Clint at 626-627-3300 for adoption info! Tubby is a very friendly, obedient dog, unfortunately he has limited feeling in his hind legs due to a fall that occurred about a year ago. I took him to an emergency animal hospital who referred me to the Veterinary Neurology CenterOne in Tustin, Orange County, CA, (949) 784-8703, in case someone would like to see his MRIs. Diagnosis was “Tubby had multi-level intervertebral disc herniations and an abnormal region of hyperintensity (brightness) in the spinal cord.” I could only assume that he preferred to survive even with diminished quality of life. I’ve been caring for him since that time but due to recent circumstances I can no longer tend to him. I believe that with the proper attention, it’s possible for him to use his hind legs again. The neurologist confirmed that he can feel his hind paws but I think the lack of use has resulted in lack of confidence and muscle in his hind legs. I know that when I’ve had time to work with him, he would show improvement and try to hobble on all four legs, especially when he goes to a park. I haven’t lost hope in his ability to recover. He has a wheelchair. He is a miniature pincher mix, about 7 years old, around 15 pounds. He is neutered and up to date on shots. Tubby also likes to "talk" to people and will respond with cute pup noises when spoken to. While initially he barks at strangers, he is a very friendly dog and loves showing his love to people by licking them. Tubby is very obedient and has never bitten anyone, has walked off-leash and always returns when called, and gets along well with anyone. While it is heartbreaking to say goodbye to such a loving member of the family, I no longer have the means to care for him. Tubby needs someone who can give him a lot of attention, encouragement to use of his hind legs, and make sure that he doesn't hurt himself by dragging his legs on hard surfaces. Despite his accident, Tubby is still a happy and excited dog, especially when given love from people. While primarily an outdoor dog, Tubby has spent time indoors. He can't always control going to the bathroom due to his legs, but he doesn't chew things or go into the trash can. Best thing for him would be grassy backyard and a pillow. He also has a sister, Ruby, who my acquaintance is able to keep. However, whoever adopts Tubby is welcome to Ruby as well in case the new owner prefers to keep them together. She is a golden lab mix, about 8 years old, about 50 pounds, so they’ve been together pretty much their whole lives. Typical lab family dog traits, friendly, loves kids, never bitten anyone.
