American Pit Bull Terrier Mix
- Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
- Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
- Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
- Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
- Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Harriet - Boxer / Mixed (short coat) Dog For Adoption

rescue Breed: Boxer-Unknown Mix Sex: Female Female Age: Adult Location: USA Posted Breed: Boxer / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: See Bio. Pet Allies in Show Low AZ Harriet is an 8 year old female boxer mix. She initially came to us after her lifelong owner, a single woman, lost her home due to financial challenges. Harriet went to live in an adult child’s family, but the other dog and she did not get along. She then went to a shelter where Pet Allies’ found her and brought her to its own shelter. Harriet spent some time at a couple foster homes, as she does suffer stress living at the shelter. She’s not young, and living on cement floors is hard on her. Staff are aware of this and do put extra padding down in her kennel, and she is on some supplements to try and help her be more mobile. She has a little limp, not severe. Please call 923 537-8009 to arrange a meeting as Harriet is living with one of our great Foster Families now. Harriet was adopted and this is the information that her previous family wanted us to share with all prospective adopters: "What I want to stress though is that there were no dog fights. There was Harry attacking dogs. My two dogs, two dachshunds, (5 years), one miniature dachshund, (11 years), are very docile, never fight, never nip, etc. The last event I saw completely, my mini doxie dapple, Harry had her leg over her neck, not allowing her to move, while she bit down on her snout trying to rip her head off basically. This wasn't a fight, it wasn't a bite, it was an attempt to kill. (Our vet is Kristen Bell, who is also out neighbor, she'd be happy to verify the injuries). I walked the folks at the shelter through this, Harry can't be with other dogs. You guys minimized this when WE took her, making it sound like she was in a fight with another dog, I am telling you, that's not the case, she attacks with intent to harm. I'm asking that you make this plain, that she cannot be with other dogs." Domestic animals ready for adoption are healthy, current with vaccines, have been altered and received their micro-chip. rescue Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier-Unknown Mix Sex: Male Male Age: Young Location: USA Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $125.00. Pet Allies in Show Low AZ Byron is a 6 month old male Pit Bull Terrier, who is a great dog! He is good with other dogs, very playful, energetic, happy, and healthy. He came to Pet Allies with a broken leg after being found by a Good Samaritan as a stray. His leg had already started to heal, incorrectly, so his front leg is oddly shaped, and he may experience arthritis in that area when he is older. He walks with a limp, but when he runs and plays you would never realize he had hurt his leg at some previous date. Byron is NOT good with chickens, he thinks they are big squeaky toys, which is not good for a chicken. We do not think he would be good in a home with cats either. However, he loves children, and is a great at snuggling, listens well, and learns quickly. You will not regret adopting this puppy! Byron is a sweetie and will need extra training time in his early days with you that all puppies need in order to become the pet you will enjoy for years to come. Please call 928 537-8009 to arrange a meeting as Byron is living with one of our great Foster Families. Adoption fee $125.00. Pet Allies in Show Low AZ Likely will need a cart or doggie wheelchair. Mayzee is a 4 month old female mixed breed puppy. It's hard to decide what breed, sometimes we think husky like, but she's way too small, and sometimes we think schnauzer mix. She's smart, bossy, happy, playful, Cute, and one BIG handful. Mayzee came to Pet Allies with mange, one badly hurt leg that had to be amputated, and one leg that had grown curvy, due to dragging the bad leg. Mayzee is currently doing water physical therapy, using a wheelchair, and trying to strengthen the one remaining curvy rear leg. It is likely she will need to use a 'cart' -- or doggie wheelchair for life. She interacts with other dogs as if she had 4 legs. She's a whirlwind of activity. Adoption fee waived for the right home.
