Posted Breed: Collie / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). www.TheLastResortRescue.com PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING THIS PET THE FIRST STEP IS TO FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION AVAILABLE AT THELASTRESORTRESCUE.COM. WE CANNOT RESPOND TO GENERAL INQUIRES ABOUT A DOG WITHOUT AN APPLICATION ON FILE. Nate was born in approx March of 2015. He is in desperate need of a a new foster home ASAP. We rescued him when he was 10 weeks old from Craigslist. Nate hasn't seemed to find the right people as he has been in and out of 4 homes already. Here is the latest update from his foster dad who needs him out by the end of this week as he is moving. Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. He loves attention and being with small groups of people. He has energy to spare, but can crash pretty hard when being active all day. He is very agile and likes to jump to greet people, so be wary of his nails. He no longer jumps on the person he's greeting but may do so if not regularly trained. He is a pretty sound sleeper, even when with company, but will make sure to wake up immediately if you try and leave him alone. Tends yelp if left by himself or if he is feeling lonely/neglected. Will whine usually if needing to go potty. He loves blankets and will attempt to play tug o war with you if it is dangled in front of him or snuggle underneath it. Listens well the closer you are with him. He is very behaved without his leash outside and does not seem tempted to jump 4 foot fences. Loves belly pats and being smothered with love from a whole group of people. Be careful with paper, cardboard and stuffed items, because he will attempt to make that item a chew toy immediately. Likes to hide his twisty bone in the silliest ways. Health and body No signs of discomfort. May have a bit of anxiety from being with different people and not being able to settle into one place for very long. Eats regularly and drinks a great amount of water. Tends to shed quite a lot, but smells really pleasant. He is very strong and active. Very slim and lanky, so he may slip out of his collar if pulled at the right angle. He’s a very active dreamer and seems to have pleasant nights. pee looks normal colored and stool tends to be soft mostly. Goes to the bathroom about 34 times a day if fed 2 cups of kibble and bowl of water a day. about 12 times for #2 and 24 times for #1.Will sometimes do them separately, so spend a bit more time outside for him to finish. Final Thoughts Nate is a great, clever and lovable dog. He has a large amount of energy, so have fun teaching him fun tricks. Enjoy being slobbered on and given many kisses. He has so much to offer so please take take care of him! We are awaiting new pictures but the main picture is from today 8/25/16 Below are the older postings from the time we rescued him: Meet Nate, a 10 week old blue heeler/collie mix. He came to us from South Jersey where we know he would of ended up in the wrong hands so we took him and his brother into our rescue. We have learned that Nate loves affection and even does this little whimper when being rubbed. He loves to play outside with his brother and other dogs. Loves to run around with the kids but does tend to jump up often. He would be great in a family that is looking for a playmate as well as a cuddler.. If you think your family is just what Nate needs fill out the application today! Update from foster mom 07/15/15 Hey there! My name is Nate and I am almost 6 months old. I am told I am great on a leash when you walk me because I never pull. Also I make my foster family proud with potty training, I bark when I have to go so there are no accidents in the house. One thing about me is I'm very affectionate and LOVE attention. Yes, I do bark when I’m looking for attention but I’m still young they say and learning. Everyone loves that I know quite a few tricks. I can sit, lay down and wait while you get my food ready and not eat it until you say ok. I’m looking for a playful home, yet also one that loves to give me attention and cuddles me. I enjoy playing with dogs and kids of all ages and sizes but haven't met a cat yet. Also, my foster family has a member that is allergic to me so we are trying to get me a new home as soon as possible! The only negative I have is that I bark a lot and it's a very piercing bark. I do this when I need to go potty so I say that's not a bad thing! I also bark when I want attention and my foster mom cannot always give it to me at that exact time so I bark for a little bit and then will stop. I really don't think I will be a big barker if I have the attention I crave. My foster family does what they can but I would really like an active family who is home a lot. I am a very sweet dog that just loves attention! Will you bring me into your family? Update from foster family 01/25/16 Personality Nate is a very affectionate dog. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Stewart, aka STEWIE, is a 14-16 week old puppy who we recently rescued from a Georgia kill shelter. We couldn't resist his bouncy personality and cute pup characteristics, those long hound ears and the best wiggle butt. Crowded shelters are a host to some very insidious germs that can be very dangerous and even deadly to an unvaccinated pup. We tried to get Stewie out of the shelter safely in time but sadly, he did get sick. He is a fighter! And with lots of love and good vet care, he is back to being a rambunctious puppy who will need a family to help him with all the normal puppy stuff like house training, continue learning basic manners and how to stay out of trouble. Stewie’s ideal forever home will have someone who is at home more than not, is patient and already has a dog who can show Stewie the ropes. He would love to have a kid or two to play ball and run in a fenced back yard! Stewie loves everyone, does well with kids, but has not been cat tested. Stewie will need to be supervised around adult dogs because he doesn’t yet recognize behaviors that may get him in trouble. He thinks everyone wants to play rough and tumble. Stewie is a happy little camper, loves playing with toys, chewing on his Kong teether, playing tug-o-war and wrestling with his foster siblings. Stewie will be adoptable in a few weeks. He will make his way to NJ after he is neutered, microchipped and completes his puppy vaccinations. Stewie update 4/15/18- Hi!! I'm Stewie, sometimes my foster mom calls me Stewart or Piggie (she says it's because of all the cute noises I make, but I think it's because I love to eat). I wanted to let everyone know how cute, well behaved, and happy I am. My motto is "Play hard, sleep harder!". I really want a brother or sister to live with, so if you think I'm as cute as my foster momma does, please have a dog that can play with me! I am not a fan of being isolated, but I have been really good loose in a portion of my current house with my foster siblings. I am doing awesome with house training, but remember I am a baby so I need to go out often. My fosters have also taught me a few cues! I am an expert at "sit", learning down, and a few other fun things cuz I'm super smart. My foster mom says I have the softest eyes ever, and I make her laugh all the time with my noises and puppy antics. I am ready for my own family to entertain and play with... must have toys please!! I love them!! Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

After that rocky is pretty open to where he will spend the rest of his life. He is good with other dogs and a gentle giant. He is learning leash manners. He was a sad, defeated old man and was placed in his hospice foster home thinking his life was almost at its natural end. We now know that his name should be "Benjamin Buttons"! The truth is, Nemo is thriving. He adores human affection and is his foster mom's shadow. He loves sitting on the couch to watch tv, sleeping under the covers, adores napping in the sun and just wants to be a constant companion. He would do well with or without other senior like minded companions and pays no mind to cats. Nemo does have some minor ailments due to his neglectful past including being incontinent but he wears his belly bands like a champ. We don't know how old Nemo actually is, but guessing 15 years young with a whole lotta love to give. His adopter should be home more often than not! Can Nemo live out his days with you? If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Hi, My name is Rosie. It was my lucky day when The Last Resort Rescue lady came to pick me up at a rural Georgia kill shelter after my family dropped me off. My first family decided they did not want to do puppy stuff with me after all. My new foster scooped me up and off we went to the vet. I got sick from being at the shelter but I am all better now. I am now in a foster home playing with the big dogs. I am learning a lot from the big kids here. On my first day, I learned how to sit for a cookie. The vet thinks I’m about 12-13 weeks old and many people are trying to guess who my mom or dad may have been because of my features and markings. You can call me whatever you want, I just know I’m very cute, cupcake cute. I weigh about 18 pounds, but I’m gaining much needed weight every day. They think I will be a medium size dog. My hair is medium and is a sassy tri-color. I’m almost 100% house trained I am crate trained but I feel like I’ll miss something. I know it’s the best place for me at night. I like to explore; my name should be Dora. I’m very curious and love to go on adventures. I put stuff in my mouth I’m not supposed to eat, so you’ll have to babyproof your house. I like to go for walks, and I’m great on a leash! I love all dogs and might like cats if I meet one. If you have a dog or a cat, I will enjoy having someone to play with at your house. Or a kid, do you have a kid I can play with at your house? Since I am still a puppy, I get bored easily, so I must stay busy or be supervised. I think my real mom and dad were busy dogs too, I would love an active family or someone who can keep me on my toes with training or lots of adventures. My foster mom says I am the smartest puppy. I pick up training very quickly. I love my toys, treats and food. Before I am adopted, I’ll be up to date on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Now I just have to find a family who will be my perfect home for the rest of my life. Complete an application! I can’t wait to meet you! If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Meet Lex and Luther! They are perhaps a cattle dog / border collie / heeler mix? We really don't know, just a best guess! Anyway, they were rescued from living under an abandoned house in GA after their "owner" moved away and left them and their momma, Lucy there! They were born approximately April 11th, 2015, They are very sweet and good with other dogs! They and their momma will be arriving to NJ on 6/14/15. Update from foster mom 06/17/15 Sweet times 3! Momma Lucy has a very sweet disposition, it’s like she has been with us for years! She easily warmed up to us. Lex – the smaller of the 2 pups, is a ball of fire, he feels he needs to defend himself from his stocky brother Luther. Both are absolutely adorable! Anyone who adopts any of the 3 will be extremely lucky! We have fostered 3 other dogs in the past & I must admit these 3 by far are the best!!!! Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LUTHER" This cutie is ready for his new come! Another great name would be MJ (Michael Jackson) because his paws look like Michael's gloves without the glitz. He loves to play outside, yet cuddles on the couch too! He was a little skiddish when he arrived to his foster home, but is coming around. Give this Little Guy the chance to grow up in a loving home Update from foster mom 10/21/15 LUTHER – this 6 ½ month old pup is looking for a new foster or forever home. He is quite the cutie. Fully housebroken, neutered and crate trained. He loves to play, cuddle & give kisses. He needs a little more training with cats that is why he needs a new foster….the weather is getting cold and it’s time for the foster’s cats to come in for the Winter months. He gets along terrifically with other dogs and loves to go for walks. Weighing about 25 pounds he is not a big dog. He is a mix (Mother was a Blue Heeler/Aust. Cattle Dog, father unknown) although he looks like he could be part Labrador. Open your arms to this absolutely loving pup! Luther is now a year old as of 4/21/16. Update from foster mom Luther is 1 yr old Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is truly a great buddy. He loves cuddling. He is crate trained as well as housebroken. He is ok with cats and small dogs but not very fond of larger dogs. Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Redman and Tinkerbelle came to us as young adults in 2010 from a hoarding case in Georgia. There were quite a few dogs and we took about 7. Later we came to find that Tink was pregnant. Her babies got homes quickly but there were a few of the dogs who struggled with their shyness which made it harder to find them homes. A wonderful woman adopted Tink and Red together and she helped them overcome their fears. We also saw Tinkerbelle through heartworm treatment which showed up on a bloodtest a few months after the pups were adopted. It is important that she be on a regiment of heartworm prevention faithfully. Fast forward 7 years and they find themselves in a foster home because her adopter has fallen ill and can no longer keep them. They are both still shy but they bond to their person very quickly. They have the best personalities and they love to snuggle. If Red could sit on a couch all day, he would. Tink will follow you around everywhere. They are a special pair and we truly hope to find them a forever home. They are being fostered in NJ. Anyone wishing to adopt this great pair should be willing to travel to NJ for adoption. If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 3/25/14 Buddy is a 12 year old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix, and is about 17 lbs. He's being tested for allergies right now, We are currently waiting on his test results. He's had a rough life. I found him wandering a local highway in the freezing rain, filthy dirty, shivering, and crying. He was flea infested, had hardly any hair on his bottom half. He was suffering from flea bite allergy and had scabs, and open sores. He was extremely itchy and would cry because it hurt so much. He was hesitant at first but it took very little coaxing before he came to me. I wrapped him in a blanket and as soon as we were in my car he kissed my face. He sat on my lap all the way home. This poor guy has 3 herniated disks, 3 BB gun pellets (he was shot), a tail that was traumatized somehow, some weakness in his hind legs (caused by the disks), a bluish haze over his eyes which the vet says is comparable to humans needing reading glasses, and plenty of bumps and lumps (which the vet believes is of no concern.) He needs a loving home where someone is willing to give him the life he deserves. He's super sweet, but like his nickname, can be a grumpy old man. He's got the funniest personality! He makes all sorts of funny sounds when he's playing, and his nose works for sure! We call it his super sniffer! He's a great cuddler, loves walks, toys, and treats. He does well during bath time, and he's well behaved in the car. He does well at the vet, and the groomer too. He's excellent in the house, no accidents. Also, he doesn't need a crate, he's very good! He doesn't get into anything or chew stuff up. He sleeps with us too! (Watch out, he snores!) He's completely spoiled. We love him and know that whomever adopts this little guy will love him too! He's great with woman, a bit slow to warm up to men, but he does come around. Kids are ok as long as there is no rough housing. It seems to make him nervous. He's not a fan of lots of action (like running) he's a quiet peaceful kinda guy. Buddy and Maya (my dog) get along ok. They don't play together very often, mostly they just co-exist. Sometimes they lay in my bed together, or next to each other on the floor. He doesn't like when she sniffs at him, mostly because of his tender tail. He has attached himself to me pretty good. If anyone playfully hits me, or anything like that, he will bark and growl. He also growls at Maya if he is laying in my lap and she comes over to visit, but, if she's by me before him it's not a problem. I know that's a lot to consider when thinking about adopting a dog, but honestly, he has given me more then I could ever give him. He's just a joy to have. Please think about how a senior dog might fit into your life, and if you are interested, please fill out an adoption application at http://thelastresortrescue.com/ He's truly worth it. Hi, my name is Buddy. They tell me I'm a Shih Tzu, possibly mixed with Maltese. I love to lay on my foster moms lap, snuggle on my comfy bed, and go for walks! From what I heard, I do pretty well on a leash. Also, I'm fully house trained. I've been with my foster family for 3 days and haven't had one accident. I'm a very good boy! I'm not too interested in toys, but boy do I love my treats! I also like car rides, and kisses! And although I don't fidget too much in the tub, bath time is not my favorite. My foster mom says that I'm going to make a special family very happy. Will it be you? Keep watching, she also says she'll be sending updates on my progress! If you have a question or inquiry please email us at tlrapplications@gmail.com Update from foster mom 2/7/14 Meet Kamali better known as Molly. She is a special girl born on 8/14/10 looking for her forever home. She bonds very well with one person female perferred and gets a bit scared when quick movements come her way. So she is looking for a quiet home with a loving person who she will adore to lay next to her. She is crate trained and housebroken and enjoys playing with her feline family. She has also done well with other dogs in the home. So if your looking to open your heart to a little girl who will make you her world you should adopt Molly. Kamali AKA Molly was sadly returned to us when her owner no longer could keep her because of a change in her living arrangements. She was adopted at just 12 weeks of age. She was born 8/14/10. She is very shy and timid. But has only been with me for a couple of days. I am hoping she will settle down once she learns she can trust us. She is doing great with my kids even the youngest who is only 6. She is crate trained and doing well with house breaking. She gets along well with other small dogs. I have two other Chihuahua's and a Pom. She loves to go out for walks and run in the back yard. She has lots of energy and would be a great addition to an active family. She may be little but she is mighty:) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm

Update from foster mom 06/30/15 "LEX" is a spunky little fellow, small but fierce! He is searching for his "forever" home. Not sure his mix, but reminds me of a minature dobie/australian cattle dog (his mommy was Australian Cattle Dog). A little lover, has quite the personality, makes cute grunting noise when he is HAPPY to see you. He is also housebroken! Lex will be a year old (April 2016) Adoption Application http://www.thelastresortrescue.com/adoptionapplication.htm
