Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Carlos was rescued from Riverside Animal Shelter. Carlos is a big boy who has had a tough life. His fur is disheveled, he has a few scars, cuts and scrapes. I can imagine that his time as a stray was not pleasant. Carlos is about 5 or 6 years old. He is shy and was very frightened at the shelter. He is becoming a little more relaxed at the kennel. He will be evaluated this week and taken to the vet for neuter. Welcome Carlos! If you are interested in this dog, please read our adoption process and fill out an adoption application here: http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. More About Boxer Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Cool Whip

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Cool Whip was rescued from Riverside Animal Shelter where she was found as a stray. She is an adorable white boxer with a natural tail. Cool Whip is about a year old and 50 lbs. She is good with people, but is nervous when meeting new people. She is much more relaxed once she gets to know you. Because she is a bit anxious/nervous initially, we are recommending her for a home with older children/teenagers (no toddlers or young kids). Cool Whip does best with calm male dogs, and best with a slower introduction. No small dogs or cats. Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Rose was rescued from Baldwin Park Animal Shelter after she and her mom were turned in by their owner. The owner's did not give a reason for relinquishing Rose and her mother Lily. Rose is a young energetic boxer girl about 10-12 months old and 50 lbs. She is a beautiful girl with 1 brindle eye and brown polka dots over her white body. Rose is shy and unsure around new people and new surroundings. She will cower and flatten herself on the ground. But once she is comfortable, she is happy and wiggly (and jumpy!). She is sweet girl who probably spent most of her life in the backyard, so she needs to learn some discipline and manners. She's a good girl. She just needs some direction. She would be good with older kids (she could knock over a child) and large confident males. Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Reina came to us with a number of tumors that needed to be removed. This shy sweetie has had a very tough time. Reina is about 6 years old. It is difficult to tell, as her teeth aren't in good condition, she has some grey, and she clearly had a recent litter. Reina had a very long recovery from her initial surgery in which we thought all tumors had been excised. She spent over a week in the vet hospital. She is much better now, but we found another small lump that will be removed this week. We biopsied a couple of the lumps, finding that one was a mast cell tumor. It was fully excised. Reina is a petite (albeit rotund) little girl with a very sweet personality. She is a little shy, but good around people. She is good with other dogs. Thank you for considering rescue dogs, we look forward to working with you. Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Modelo came to us several months ago as part of a group of 4 boxers from Mexico. All 4 were owned by a backyard breeder that died. A poor neighbor did his best to take care of these boxers but food and water were scarce. We were contacted when someone discovered these boxers nearly starving to death. All 4 were in bad medical shape. Modelo was probably the worst. We think Modelo is about 5 years old, but it is very difficult to determine her age. Normally, vets check teeth, body, and skin. Modelo and the other 3 had lived in such poor conditions that they appear to older than we think they are. Modelo may look a little grey in the tooth, but this girl still has game. She is good with people and other dogs. If you are interested in fostering, adopting or finding more information about Modelo or our other dogs, please read about our adoption process and fill out the application. Franklin

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Introducing Franklin. Franklin was given to us because his owner was working too many hours and had very little time to devote to his dog (no comments please). Franklin is only about a year old and this was his 2nd home. Franklin is one adorable boxer and I'm sure as a pup he was totally irresistible. But puppies require a lot of time and work, and boxers are high energy. When we adopt a boxer to a first time boxer owner, the first thing we ask is what they know about the breed and why they want to have one. Boxer owners love their dogs and wouldn't have anything else. People need to understand the breed of dog they are about to own, for their own benefit and the benefit of the animal. Franklin is a good boy, he shouldn't have been in 2 homes in his short life. Franklin is about 1 year old and a small guy about 45 lbs. He is a little unsure when meeting new people but does come around pretty quickly. He is a smart boy and knows some commands like sit and down. He walks nicely on a leash. Franklin was not socialized much with other dogs so he is afraid of other dogs when they get close. He is not aggressive at all, but will back up and try to run away. We will be working with him at the kennel to socialize and give him good experiences with other dogs. It is important that Franklin experiences the good stuff initially as that will set the tone for future. We want him to learn that other dogs are fun. Thank you for considering rescue dogs, we look forward to working with you. Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Konani was rescued from Kern County Animal Shelter where he had been found as a stray...at 9-10 yrs old. Konani is a sweet and gentle boxer who didn't deserve to be dumped just because he was getting old. Konani is lucky. A wonderful foster home (where he thriving) took him in. But Konani needs a forever home, for whatever time he has left. He loves to be next to you whether you're doing laundry or just chillin on the couch. He loves his walks in the morning and loves to play with the other dogs. He's gentle around children. Konani weighs about 55 lbs. He would do great in a family setting with multiple people to pay attention to him. Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer (short coat). Dorothy is a senior Boxer girl, around 8 years old. She was first rescued from a shelter in Central California, then adopted. Unfortunately, the adopter lost his job, unable to care for her, and she was returned to rescue with a tumor on her left hind foot bigger than a golf ball, along with a tumor on her tail. The tumor on the tail was a benign cyst, but one on her foot was a mast cell tumor. She went through surgery with a toe removal. We thought her cancer may come back, but so far it's been a year and she seems to have no other tumors. Dorothy is a sweet girl, GREAT with children and babies. She can get along with a large male dog that is fairly mellow, but it takes very slow introduction. Once she likes a dog, she is best friends with them. Dorothy is looking for a forever home or a foster home willing to care for her for the rest of her life. Won't you open up your home and your heart for a sweet senior girl? If you are interested in adopting or finding more information about Dorothy or our other dogs, please read about our adoption process and fill out the application. Linc

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Boxer
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Young
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Boxer / Bulldog (short coat). Linc came from Stockton last year on September 6. He was skinny and had horrible skin condition that was later diagnosed as sebaceous adenitis. He was also diagnosed with luxating knee caps that was cutting into his ligaments and an injury to Achilles tendon. With the help of West Coast Boxer Rescue volunteers and supporters he went through surgery for his knees and stem cell therapy for Achilles and surgical sites which also helped heal his skin. It took weeks to see improvements for his skin, but the change has been nothing short of being awesome. Linc is an amazing dog - a perfect gentleman. He is great with other dogs, sweet, calm, gentle and walks nicely on leash for the most part. He is even ok with cats. He loves people and loves to be pet. Linc is probably about 2 years old and weights about 48 lbs. Because of his skin condition, he needs a rub down with olive oil/water solution, let that sit for 1-2 hours, then a bath to wash that off every 1-2 weeks. He also has eye issue and needs eye medication administered few times a day. Following items need to be considered if you are interested giving him a forever home (medical is covered for foster home): - His knees and Achilles has healed and he has been given a clean bill of health by his surgeon. - His tear production isn't good. He will need eye ointment few times a day for the rest of his life probably. - Sabaceous adentitis is an autoimmune disease. This is only the 3rd case this has been treated with stem cell, oldest case being 2011. - It is likely that he may need future stem cell dose. Because there are only 2 cases prior we don't know how often. The case that is recorded with VetStem utilized stem cell once every 1-2 years. - There is an annual stem cell banking charge with Vet Stem. You can read more about it here: https://www.vet-stem.com/cellbanking/ - Each treatment of stem cell is going to cost around $500, depending on the veterinarian. There is one dose left at VetStem. - After the remaining 1 dose, the stem cell need to be re-cultured with one-time fee of $750 - $1000 (may require additional cost from your vet). - There are ways to manage sabaceous adentitis without the stem cell. If you are interested in Linc, please read about our adoption process and fill out the application. Once the application is received our volunteer will contact you: http://www.westcoastboxerrescue.org/adopt/. Thank you. He is a very good boy who loves his family. He is good with other dogs and children. Kingston lived outdoors (Kingston must be an indoor dog in his forever home). and would stay in the garage in bad weather. He is about 6 years old. He is still playful and does like chewing toys if you let him. Kingston was adopted from the shelter by a family. They tested their dog with Kingston and everything went well. But after they got home, the resident dog attacked Kingston. The family said Kingston didn't do anything nor did he fight back. They said he loved to be in the doggie pool, chased butterflies and was great with the kids. He played with toys when the other dog wasn't around. For the safety of Kingston, the family returned him to the shelter.
