Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Reagan is a ruggedly handsome Brittany, who is sturdy for his breed--tipping the scale at 60 pounds. He gets along with other dogs, after a proper introduction, but would also really enjoy being the center of attention as an only dog. He likes attention from his human more than anything. When he was surrendered by his owner who was moving, we were told that Reagan once hunted with him, but we have not have him out to test his ability or recall. Reagan is altered, up to date on his vaccines, and tested negative for heartworm, tick & Lyme diseases. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Reagan, please contact Robin at britrescueaz@cox.net. At 10, Reagan is eligible for our senior to senior adoption program making his adoption donation just $100 for anyone 60 yrs or over. Otherwise, his adoption fee is $175. He is a healthy boy and requires no medication and has no signs of arthritis. An application, interview and home visit is part of our adoption process. Applications can be completed via our website at www.nbran.org.

More About Brittany Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Brittany-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Brittany / Hound / Mixed (medium coat). Colby is a sweet, cheerful Brittany-hound mix, weighing about 35 pounds, and believed to be between 6-7 years old. He originally came to NBRAN from an Alabama kill shelter and was pretty beaten up; he had scars on his body and was totally emaciated. Now after being in the care of NBRAN for a while Colby is now happy, healthy, and ready to find his FOREVER Home! Colby has been under the expert care of a NBRAN behaviorist foster here in South Eastern PA who, says “Colby is the happiest dog ever.” He has no anxiety, and he loves women and children. He is leery around some men, it depends on their personality. He can also be a bit protective about his owner, but continues to learn and our behaviorist is happy to provide additionally assistance to Colby’s new family as he makes the transition into his new home. Colby is also great with children. In fact, his favorite activity is to be chased around the yard, especially by kids! Colby is also good with other dogs and has no food or sharing issues, as our behaviorist has taken treats and food directly from Colby's mouth without any growling or snapping. Our happy-go-lucky boy also already knows several commands: sit, down, and leave it. He is learning to heel. He is also housebroken and crate-trained, and he walks on a gentle lead and halter. Colby could possibly do well with an Invisible Fence if trained to it, but he already does wonderfully in a physically fenced yard where he is able to run free. He doesn’t try to climb it or escape. He enjoys playing with and being around other dogs and would be a loving companion dog. He even likes car rides! Colby has never been tested around cats, but he hasn't’t reacted negatively at all to small dogs. He is very trainable and gentle. Ready to take this happy, deserving boy into your home? If so, please consider filling out an application online at: http://nbran.org/adopt/adoption-application. Once your application is received, the coordinator in the state in which you live will be in touch to follow-up regarding your interest in Colby. Need to reach your State Coordinator? Find their contact information here: http://nbran.org/about/state-provincial-coordinators. Colby's adoption fee is 275.00, which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing a Brit like Colby back to good health and readying them for adoption. Don't live in PA or close by? No Problem! NBRAN has a wonderful transport team who will help bring Colby to his new family, up to 1400 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee. Still have questions? Contact Chris Eddinger at ceddinger@verizon.net. Thank you!

      Breed: Brittany-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Brittany / Spaniel / Mixed (medium coat). ~~Hi my name is Violet. I’m a petite Brittany mix. Aren’t I cute? I am so cute that I can get away with being a bit of a pill. My foster dad says that sometimes I am a little devil dog. Here is my story: When I first arrived in rescue, I was very afraid of everyone and everything. You would be too if you had been mistreated by some bad people. I was also afraid of these two big-boy Brittanys at my foster home. I would growl to say “back off” and they didn’t understand that I just couldn’t trust anyone. After a few days, I began to slowly trust my new foster family and after a couple of weeks I began to trust my whole foster family including my new favorite foster brothers. Now we are the three musketeers keeping the home safe from mice and lizards from the canyon trying to get in our backyard, and the mailman who puts junk mail though our front door every afternoon. Woof! Now that I have built up some trust, I love to jump and play. My foster dad says I am more like an 18-month old Brittany than the 3-year old the vet says I am. I think I would do best if I lived with an experienced owner or owners in an adults-only home as the only dog, or at least with another dog who is kind and gentle. While I am learning obedience skills, I need a forever parent(s) who is calm, patient, and experienced. I don’t like anyone to yell at me or rush toward me, it hurts my feelings and it makes me remember the bad place where I used to live. I have a good appetite, am very energetic and loving. I would love to sit on your lap or near you on the couch while you listen to music or watch TV. I love the outdoors and especially walks with my foster dad. I will happily sleep on my own cushion or sneak up and cuddle you in bed. When I am not cuddling, I have Brittany energy and will need a nice yard to run and play in. Since I can jump several feet straight up, you are going to need a yard with a 5-6 foot secure fence so I can play safely. I also have a tendency - like some other Brittanys - to want to climb fences so a privacy fence is preferred over a chain link fence. You can see my Brittany traits when I’m doing my best to hunt when playing with my favorite stuffed duck toys. Of course, once I catch my duck, I like to play keep away. Take a look at my photos and check out my cute tan Brittany nose, pink gums and golden eyes. My Brittany spots are light orange. I haven’t quite figured out a ball or fetch and would rather play keep away. My foster dad thinks my Rolling Stone of a Papa may have had some terrier in him because I will certainly guard your back yard from any creatures that try to trespass. Well that’s about it for my story. You can tell from my pictures that I have both a regal and playful side. I am part clown and part queen of the party. Violet is spayed, current on her vaccinations, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $325. If you would like to be considered as Violet’s furever parents, please complete an on-line application at www.nbran.org (under the Adopt tag). Once your application has been completed, please contact Patti at nationalbrittanyrescue@gmail.com or call 310.994.1062. I am currently enjoying fun in the sun in San Diego, California. A phone interview, home visit, and vet check will be required as part of the approval process.

      PA/Cooper

      rescue
      Breed: Brittany
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Sweet Cooper is ready to find his Happily Ever After Forever Home! Cooper is a handsome, tall, orange & white, approximately ten-year-old male Brittany. He weighs about 40 pounds, and even though he may be a “senior,” he is strong, loves toys, and has lots of bouncy energy! He is crate-trained and house-trained, and he is a quick learner who would make a great addition to a quieter home with dog-savvy adults, seniors, or families with older children who can give him space and time to feel comfortable. He is a quiet boy and hardly ever barks. In fact, his foster mom says he “meows” if he needs to go potty! He would enjoy running around a backyard with a tall physical fence. Cooper came to NBRAN as a stray from a shelter in Illinois; he was un-neutered, and Lyme and Heartworm positive. We have no knowledge about his life before he came to us. After great foster and vet care, he is neutered and up-to-date on all vetting (he has completed treatment for Heartworm and Lyme). Cooper has a lot to offer the right family. He can climb up and down uncarpeted stairs with no trouble. He eats in his crate alongside three other resident Brittanys in his foster home and shows no food aggression, especially when he gets to eat in his own crate. Cooper loves playing with balls and toys. He must be smart too because he likes to dig in the toy box for his favorite toy of the moment— he’ll pull out a toy, throw it on the ground, flop on his back, and roll around on it! Cooper’s prey drive seems high so we recommend no cats unless they are willing to teach him a lesson or two. He is happy in his crate during the day for up to five hours, but he goes to a doggy daycare if his humans are going to be away longer than that. He isn’t scared of vacuums or thunderstorms. He has that typical sensitive Brittany nose! His foster mom says he should have been named George, as in Curious George, as his nose never seems to stop working. Cooper wants to sniff every corner, box, bush, and tree. On walks, his nose is on the ground catching all possible smells. He also wants to see what’s on the kitchen counter, so it’s best not to leave out tasty temptations. More from his Foster Mom: “Cooper is a wonderful dog. He can be shy around new people and things, so he likes his routine and loves his crate. He sleeps in his crate all night, and ‘meows’ when it’s time to get up and go outside. His vocabulary is also growing! He quickly learned “shake,” “sit,” and “wait” at the door (although we are still careful with all open outside doors). He knows “this way” which guides him in the right direction on a walk. He can walk very nicely on a leash, but only headed toward home. His outbound leash needs a bit more work. I have him on a long lead— 12-15 feet. He doesn’t heel, but he also doesn’t lunge or pull. He understands “no” and “drop it.” They are even beginning to play around with a basic agility course in the basement. He stands wonderfully still for grooming— even for clipping his toenails! He can do a little flip with a dog treat off his nose and catch it, and now he’s learning how to give high fives.” Way to go, Cooper! Perhaps the cleverest thing about Cooper is that he knows how to help himself to bones from the pantry: His foster mom says that if the pantry door is open, Cooper happily gets a bone off the shelf, brings it to the living room floor, and then goes back for more until he has a little pile of them at the ready! He likes to chew, so having plenty of those bones and Kongs on hand— especially if he needs to be in his crate for a while— will keep him happy. Ready to take this clever, deserving, young-at-heart guy into your home? If so, please consider filling out an application online at: http://nbran.org/adopt/adoption-application. Once your application is received, the coordinator in the state in which you live will be in touch to follow-up regarding your interest in Cooper. Need to reach your State Coordinator? Find their contact information here: http://nbran.org/about/state-provincial-coordinators. Cooper's adoption fee is $200.00, which will help NBRAN cover the vetting costs and other expenses associated with bringing a Brit like Cooper back to good health and readying them for adoption. However, being a senior boy, Cooper also is a part of the Senior to Senior adoption program (which would be a great fit for him!), so ask your state coordinator for details. Don't live in PA or close by? No Problem! NBRAN has a wonderful transport team who will help bring Cooper to his new family, up to 1400 miles with the adoptive family being responsible for the last 100 miles, at no additional fee. Posted Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Are you looking to make a difference for a rescue dog? Tonto is a 5 year old male who was used as a stud dog and lived in a kennel for his entire life. That is until NBRAN stepped in. He needs someone who is patient and has a soft voice. He does get along with some dogs, but would do best as an only pet. He does not do well around male humans. Tonto loves to sleep in bed with you. When the humans leave the house he will stay quietly in his crate. So Tonto is looking for that special home. He’ll need a physical fence, and hopefully someone who has the time to help him learn how great it is to be a loved and pampered house dog. He is currently in foster care in Michigan. His adoption fee is $350.00. He can be transported up to 1400 miles, with the adopter driving the last 100 miles of his journey. NBRAN does require a home visit and vet check. If you are interested in Tonto please go to nbran.org and complete an online application. The coordinator in your state will contact you. The Michigan Coordinator handling the adoption for Tonto is Joanne Denomme. Please contact her if you have any additional questions at jojodenomme@gmail.com

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). When NBRAN heard that there was a high Brittany mix female in a shelter in Tennessee with her two babies, we just couldn't take Mom and leave the puppies behind. So we brought the "family" into rescue knowing we would be able to find good homes for each of them. This is Maple. She's a 7 month old spayed female who obviously looks more like her Daddy (not sure what he is) than her Brittany mix Momma but we can all agree she's as cute as a button. Moxie is Maple's Mom and Mocha is her sister. She is UTD on her vaccines, wormed and is ready for her forever home. Maple is good with other dogs but can be dominant in play with a dog smaller than her. She comes when called . She will chew on her bedding some. She is active and loves to play. Maple and her family are being fostered in Tennessee. Her adoption fee is $350 to offset the cost of vetting and to help us rescue more Brittanys in need. She can be transported up to 1,400 miles through our Canine Railroad with the owner taking the last 100. If you would like more information on Maple, please contact settertown@aol.com.
