Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Bolt! This boy is super fun and outgoing. He loves being in the spotlight and has plenty of energy to go around. Although his attention span seems short, he is smart and eager to please. He will work for treats but praise and attention are just as important to him! Shepherd lovers already know Bolt''s play style- he is talkative and rowdy, but typically listens to corrections. Bolt''s favorite friend at the shelter is a male bulldog mix who shares his rough-and-tumble playstyle! Bolt will thrive in his new home with structure and an outlet for his energy. Give him a job to do and he will work hard!

More About German Shepherd Dog Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). I''m Smidge! I''m easy-going and friendly. I seem to like other small dogs I''ve met here at the shelter. I''d be a perfectly sized armful or lapful, and I am equally fine being carried or leash walking. There may be a lot of small dog here, but I am a mature and tolerant friend who''d love to go home soon. See ya later!

He bonds quickly with his person and enjoys sitting right by your feet or on a chair next to you. New or unexpected situations make Pepper uncomfortable, so a consistent routine and lots of structure would be ideal for him. Though he does well meeting new animals, he would rather not share his home with them, so being your one and only sidekick would be great. Please call the Adams County Animal Shelter at 303-288-3294 or email fosterquestions@adcogov.org for more information about Dante. If you''re looking for the snuggliest cuddle buddy, Dante is your guy! Dante walks well on leash, loves other dogs, and is eager to learn new tricks. He likes making human friends and does best with slow introductions to new people. Dante''s personality is a perfect blend of goofiness and intelligence. He''s trusted loose indoors, provided he gets a morning walk and puzzle toys to keep him entertained when he is home alone. In his foster home he enjoys sleeping under the covers with the humans, spooning on the couch with his foster-dog brother and following the chickens around the yard. Dante recently had surgery on one of his back legs to repair a luxating patella, but he is feeling great now! He is looking for a new home that can continue to help him build his strength back up in his rear leg.

      Breed: Chihuahua-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female

Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Jinx (A124198) is currently in FOSTER CARE. Please call the Adams County Animal Shelter at 303.288.3294 or email fosterquestions@adcogov.org for more information about Jinx. Hi guys! I''m Jinx. I''m looking for a really special home- maybe you can help me! I bond really closely with one person and need some time to warm up to strangers. A quiet household with not a lot of visitors and no young kids would be best for me. A single person who wants a super loyal companion would be even better! I love to be with my person all the time, and would do best with an owner who is home most of the day or can take me with them. If you need to leave me alone, I do best in a kennel so I stay calm while you are gone. Like most divas, I don''t like to be disturbed while I''m napping on my bed- so respecting my beauty rest is a must! I like to play with other dogs my size, and I''ve even started playing with a kitten in my foster home. Sharing my home with other animals would be great as long as I have plenty of time to get to know them! Once I trust you, I''m really just a silly lovable puppy. If you have the patience to let me show you what a fun little pup I am, I promise you won''t be disappointed! Check out my video playing with my buddies in foster care!

      CHUNK

      verified

      rescue
      Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Queensland Heeler (short coat). Chunk is currently in FOSTER CARE. Please email jbishopp@adcogov.org for more information about Chunk. Meet Chunk! Chunk is a special boy who bonds very strongly to one person, preferably a female. He loves his foster mom and smothers her with hugs and kisses whenever he sees her. He''s a fun dog too - he plays frisbee (and politely hands it back to you to throw again), fetch, and loves to kick around a soccer ball. He walks nicely on leash, and will lead you to where the leashes hang when he wants to go for a walk. He loves other dogs, is very respectful and plays nicely with them. He is crate trained, rides nicely in a car and is so so smart! Chunk would do best in a quiet home with an experienced cattle dog owner. He should not live with children, and should be crated when new people come over to the house. He would benefit from living with a social, confident dog, but would also be ok as a single dog. Chunk has a huge heart and would walk through fire for his foster mama, but still finds other people to be a bit scary. He would benefit from an owner who is willing to `date` him and meet him a few times prior to adoption.
