Her story at this point begins with a shift in her world due to her owners' split, making her in need of a fresh start. Despite the challenges, Hazel remains a sweet and playful girl with a heart full of love. In her current home, she has found an unlikely best buddy in a Chihuahua. She really enjoys his companionship. While she may bark at other dogs passing by, she hasn't had the chance to interact with them. she has demonstrated a non-aggressive attitude towards food with her Chihuahua friend since she is free fed but has shown some resource guarding tendencies with high-value items which are bones and people food. Her interactions with felines at home have been positive, but encountering them outside triggers her chasing instincts. Hazel has yet to meet any children, and her nervousness around new people may lead to barking and lunging, but she has never bitten anyone. Her owners have always provided a safe space for her when meeting strangers, acknowledging her need for reassurance. Her history suggests that a home without kids might be the most comfortable environment for her due to her jumping tendencies. Despite her challenges, she boasts several commendable qualities. She is housebroken, crate trained, and well-versed in basic commands. Her playful nature shines through as she chases butterflies, plays fetch, and engages in adorable peekaboo sessions with her Chihuahua brother. This resilient girl was hit by a car in August 2022, spending a night at the vet but bouncing back remarkably well. Hazel has some quirks, such as counter surfing and digging if left unattended, which could be improved with some training and redirection. Leash manners and recall training would also benefit her, given her strength and excitement during walks. Hazel's ideal home is one that understands her need to be an inside dog, providing a yard where she can exercise and play.
