Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Paloma! Being with people is her favorite thing! She was born around 6/1/2014, and is full-sized at 85 pounds. This girl is very affectionate, sweet, easy going, and laid back. She likes to be right by you and help you do things, like helping you put your shoes and socks on by laying her head on your lap. She is friendly towards every one she meets. Paloma would be happiest as the only dog in her new home. Cats are her preferred furry companion! She likes getting cozy with her kitty twin in her foster home. She is house trained, leash trained, and rides well in a car. She has no need for a crate. She is mostly quiet, and will share her deep, gruff bark only when needed. She should not be placed with young children or the very elderly, because she is a hard sleeper and startles easily. Also she sometimes gets over enthusiastic and jumps on people. Foster mom is working to stop this habit, but we don’t anyone getting accidentally pushed to the ground. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!

More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Great Pyrenees
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Mitchell! He is an absolutely gorgeous Great Pyrenees born around April 16, 2014. And he is a big boy at 95 pounds! He exhibits nothing less than typical Pyr confidence, trust, and adaptability. This marvelous boy loves every person he meets. He relishes your attention, and will even bury his nose in your tummy! As a laid-back dude, he prefers the company of adults over children; the young ones bring too much excitement for his taste. He can get along with teenagers if they are quiet and calm. He is equally selective about his canine companions. He insists that they be female, and smaller than he is. He absolutely does not tolerate dark-coated male dogs or any dog larger than he is. He enjoys an early morning romp with his smaller doggy girlfriends, then he likes to chillax for the rest of his day. He prefers that his pack remain small – just one or two more dogs in the house is plenty for him. Mitchell is house trained and leash trained, but don’t plan on taking him on any pleasure rides! He does not like to travel – at all. And don’t try to crate him – he absolutely will not go in a crate, and there’s no need for it in his case. Mitchell is ready for his forever home. He still has a playful side but has left those puppy habits behind, so there’s need to worry about him eating your furniture or your slippers! Mitchell is available for adoption exclusively in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. His wish list is small. He just wants someone to keep him safe and love him unconditionally. Simple as that. PIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Rocky! This affectionate Great Pyrenees mix was born around 4/4/2015. He is super gentle with children, and loves being by your side every moment you’re home. When he was picked up at the shelter, he got in the car and laid down right away. Within an hour of getting home, he was playing with the family, flopping on his back for belly rubs, coming to his new people for head scratches, and showing off his ever-wagging tail. He is house trained, leash trained, and doggy door trained. He knows the commands for sit, down, come, wait and of course “belly!” He loves car rides and going for walks to meet new people. He gets along well with other dogs and is nice to cats. He’s not a big barker, but when he does, it is an impressive deep bellow. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Breed: Great Pyrenees

      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Buddy Love! This beautiful, funny boy was born around 11/11/2007. He has the most adorable flecks of brown freckles on his ears. He is 100 pounds of sweetness. He is totally goofy! He is twirls in circles of excitement when you go to pet him! He smiles all the time. He is a living speed bump and loves lying on a soft bed inside. His other favored activity is bathing in the sun outside, surveying his domain. Sometimes he’ll get a burst of energy to chase bunny rabbits. Mr. Gorgeous wouldn’t mind being the only dog in his new home. He tolerates other big dogs, but he’s not interested in playing with them. He is not super-thrilled with small dogs, because he doesn’t like his belly being sniffed or being walked under. He accepts living with cats. Buddy has lost his hearing. He has already learned five hand signals, and he loves being able to understand and comply with what his human wants of him. Buddy is house trained, leash trained, great in a crate, uses a pet door, rides well in a car, and loves going for walks. He is shy about going potty on leash, and he prefers to modestly do such things in the privacy of his own yard. So he might not be the best choice for someone living in an apartment where he would be required to do his business on leash. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Joker! This sweet and lovable Great Pyrenees was born on March 11, 2012. He is a big, magnificent boy weighing an impressive 112 pounds! He was in a loving home for three years until one of his humans became ill, and he had to be re-homed. Joker is a wonderful companion dog. He loves to follow you around and will snuggle his head into your lap. He nestles in next to you and lets you know it's not time to stop petting him yet. And he is definitely a great watch dog. Joker gets so excited when he hears the sound of his leash - he loves going for walks and car rides! He absolutely enjoys spending time outdoors. And it turns out he is also very fond of a crate. If left open, he will let himself in and out as he pleases and likes to sleep inside. One of the amusing things to watch is when he feels playful, he will race from one room to the next and back again, spin and twirl around, run a few steps, and spin around again a couple more times. Joker definitely likes to be king of the castle, so he should be an only dog. Also, he would do best with older children, as younger, more rambunctious kids tend to make him nervous. He is so well behaved, all he wants is to please you. He is house trained, leash trained, crate trained, and sits on command. Bill adores people, and he is great with kids! He is a fabulous companion. He loves to romp and play other dogs, and he’ll need a doggy companion in his new home. He gets along equally well with males and females. He will do best with a family that does not ask him to ride in a car very often, because the poor boy gets carsick. When he has to go to for a ride, he sometimes hesitates before getting in; but just give him a moment, and he jumps right in. She is a couch cuddler most of the time. Her foster mom had Neffie’s DNA tested to find out where she inherited her striking color features. The surprising results: she is 1/2 Pyr, 1/4 Rottweiler, 1/8 Greyhound, and 1/8 terrier! Sweet Neffie is a low-maintenance girl who is super-eager to please. Sometimes she gets the cutest burst of energy – just take her on a walk or to play outside, and see her puppy side come out! When she’s done romping, she loves to be under your hand as much as possible, soaking up all the love you have to give. She wants to be the only dog in her new home. She is fine around other dogs at the park or other public places, but she wants to be your one and only at home. She is fine sharing her space with cats. Neff is house trained, leash trained, and rides great in a car. Because of her large size, Neffie should be placed in a home without small children - we don’t want anyone getting accidentally knocked down. Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Max! This affectionate boy was born around June 1, 2013, and he weighs 90 pounds. He is the perfect combination of playful and easygoing. He loves cuddling with his humans and is good with older kids. He gets along great with big male and female dogs, and he is respectful of dogs that don’t want to play. Given his exuberance, he would do best with a big, active doggie companion to help him expend his energy. If he is the only dog in the house, his humans will need to keep him active with walks, playing, and various adventures. He is very spirited and needs lots of room to run and play. He still loves his toys! Max is house trained and rides great in a car. He is great on leash, and likes a quick pace, maybe even a jog! He loves meeting new people along the way. He hasn’t been around cats or small dogs, so we don’t know how he would do with them in the house. Max loves to be outside whether he’s playing, or just laying in the grass, content as can be. He barks sometimes when he needs to warn you about something, and he has a lovely, deep, muted bark. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Breed: Great Pyrenees
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Dirk! This gorgeous, big, affectionate Great Pyrenees boy loves his humans! He was born approximately August 1, 2013. Dirk is a sweet soul who had a bit of a rough start in life - he has lost one hind leg. Dirk does not want you to feel sorry for him. He wants family who will treat him like a normal dog and provide him with a secure, stable life. Above all, he wants to be loved, be accepted, and feel secure. He needs a calm, quiet home with adults only. We want to be sure he doesn’t accidentally get knocked down. He is not one to take for walks, as he does not take kindly to seeing other dogs when he’s out. He would do best in a home where he can stay in the house and back yard, and doesn’t have to go for walks; he finds them stressful rather than fun. This handsome boy is house trained, crate trained, and rides nicely in a car. He is pretty responsive (for a Pyr) to basic commands such as come, sit, down, crate, go. He is playful and likes to play with toys. He loves, loves to be brushed with any kind of brush you have! He can be an only dog if his humans are home a lot, or he can live in a home with other dogs of a certain temperament. What he needs in a canine companion is a male or female who is confident, laid back, nonreactive, and can anchor him and provide him with a sense of security. He has high prey drive and cannot be in a home with cats or other small critters. Dirk is not one for a novice dog owner. He will do best with someone who is experienced with dogs and who has some knowledge of dog behavior and their body language. Dirk is available for adoption exclusively in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, or someone willing to drive to the area to get him. SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
