More About Great Pyrenees Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

I really do well around children. I love attention, car rides, long walks and even a good hike. I do get a little nervous when left alone so I would love to go to work with my human or have one I can stay home with. I don't jump fences, I like being being groomed, I'll even warm your bed up before you crawl in for the evening. Spending time together and playing in the yard with you and some toys would be amazing!

Posted Breed: Karelian Bear Dog (long coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Very shy My name is Yolonda. I am a Karakachan Bear Dog. I was raised in a hoarding situation where I did not get human contact and wasn't shown any love. I was saved by a shelter in Wyoming, where I learned humans aren't so bad. I am still scared of new people and places but with lots of love and patients, I could blossom into your best friend. I would do best in a home where someone is there with me so I don't get scared. I do enjoy a quieter home where there isn't a lot going on. I do like to play with other dogs, but I prefer a sweet and calm friend that likes to play and can show me how to be a fun dog. I'm hoping someone out there can show me that it's okay to be loved and that it's ok to be myself.

I'd really like some time to get to know you. I'm friendly but haven't really had a fair chance in life. I've never been allowed to live inside a house. I would love to see what a house looks like from the inside. I'm pretty sure if given a chance, I'd make a fantastic best friend. I've heard about how beautiful Colorado is and would love to make the big move there! I'm excited to explore the mountains, go camping, hiking, fishing, to play in the lakes and rivers, and snow! Maybe even some sledding! If you think we'd be good together and you're willing to show me how to behave in a home, I think we would be great together!

I get along best with smaller dogs and I really don't think I'd do well with chickens. I need an adjustment period and should be let outside on a leash only until I settle in. I can scale just about any fence you can design. I don't try to get out once I know I'm loved and feel secure. I'm good with Kids, other dogs and possibly cats. I'd love a home where I can sleep inside and be with my hoomens as much as possible. I'm a happy girl looking for a happy home. hope to meet you soon!

Posted Breed: Akbash / Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Oh! Hi there! How are you? My name is Miller! I was found as a stray so no one really knows anything about my past. The nice people here pulled me from a shelter, saving my life. They think I’m an Akbash/Pyr mix, I am chipped, neutered, up to date on all shots, was a given a date of birth as 08/2016. I’m a big, fluffy ball of energy at almost 100 pounds! I’m full of energy, and my manners aren’t so great, so I tend to jump on people to greet them. I’m learning that this is probably not okay with all the people. I have a lot of learning to do. I’m not very good on a leash yet, but I do know how to sit, especially when there is food around. With time and patience, I’ll be the best dog ever! I like to play with my toys, and other dogs, too! I’m a pretty friendly guy. If you’re looking for an active buddy, I’m your guy! To adopt me, fill out the application on the homepage, and come see me! http://pyrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form_humanverify?formid=4695

Posted Breed: Boxer / Great Pyrenees / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Howdy guys! I'm Talley a beautiful 2 yr old Great Pyrenees and Boxer mix. My dad was a Pyr and my mom was a Boxer. I really like these big white fluffy dogs here, they love to run around with me all day long. They are a lot like me, enjoy big toys that are hard to shred and chasing each other around all day long and where I am from I never saw this much snow. It's Great! I want to play in it all day long and make doggy angels. I'm certainly active when it comes to play time, I also like the napping that happens after a long hard day of bite my kennel neighbors tail. The kennels are warm and have these great big beds, I think my caregiver calls them Kuranda beds or something. They also cover my bed with a big soft blanket so when I go to sleep at night I can cuddle right in and catch some decent Zzzz's. Your not gonna believe this part, before I fall asleep they bring me 3 big meaty treats and play soft classical music for us. I do like it here and feel safe and loved but someday I'd really like my very own family. One I can play with in my future backyard. Maybe even go for a Sunday drive and find new adventures with. Boy oh boy that woukd fun, i sure hope you find me soon so we can meet. I won't say goodbye, just see ya later.

Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Buddy is a special boy, he was found in a field in Texas with badly broken bones in his leg. He must have been injured for a long time because his bones have fused themselves in a strange way. they grew back together sideways and the Ortho Vet doesn't want to rebreak and start over for fear that the new growth will not happen. Buddy has been given the all clear by his doc to be adopted. he is a friendly boy around a year old, he enjoys playing, running and relaxing. He gets along well with other dogs, loves kiddos, and isn't afraid of big humans. Buddy stayed with a foster who had a kitty and Buddy didn't react to the cat at all. He would do well in a home with a fenced yard, kiddos, cats, other dogs and a very loving family.
