Smoky – Black Male, 1 year old, 60 lbs. My name is Smoky and I am looking for my forever family. My past history isn’t long, since I’m only a pup. I’d love to tell you more, but I can’t—because I’m a dog, you know! All I can tell you is that I went for a walk with my girlfriend, and the next thing I know we are locked up at the animal shelter. My owner didn’t claim me and I was rescued from that noisy, scary place by the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno. Now I’m at a great foster home with a 4-legged foster brother and an old cat that my foster mom says is off-limits. My previous owner didn’t give me much attention or guidance. My foster mom is teaching me some basic skills. It’s really hard to sit still and listen sometimes, but I get lots of treats and pets when I do what she wants, so I try really hard to hear those “Good boys!” I am doing so well that I even get to sit on the sofa with my foster mom for snuggles. I have lots of energy and love to play, like most puppies do. If you do, too, please apply to be my forever family. I’d really like to meet you. Smoky is the typical Lab puppy. His family will need to be patient and be prepared to teach him what he needs to know to be the perfect Lab. He is still in the chewing stage. Shoes, toys, throw pillows, potted plants, etc., are of great interest to him and should not be left within his reach until Smoky gets a bit older and understands what is appropriate to chew on. Like all young dogs, he will need some help re-directing his chewing energy to a dog toy like a Kong or a Nyla-bone in the meanwhile. He is crate trained and sleeps all night in his crate without a peep. He is very good on car rides and we hope to find a family who will take him with them on many adventures. Of course, Smoky has received all appropriate vaccinations, and he has been neutered and microchipped. Smoky’s family should be committed to attending training classes with him to ensure a lifetime of good behavior. Remember, a young Labrador can be a 15 year commitment!
