Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. The Beautiful Stella Is Waiting To Meet You!! Our stunning, sweet, lovable girl has been waiting quite some time for an amazing home! Stella was very shy when she first came into the rescue with her puppies. She has been professionally trained by Rachelle of All Smiles Dog Training and has blossomed into an amazing companion! Stella is house/crate trained, great with other dogs, good with cats, loves kids and she is good on the leash and knows her basic commands. Sometimes Stella can be a little shy of new things at first, but she over comes it quickly and will look to her human for reassurance. Stella is a lower energy gal who loves to go for walks and just hang out with her family! Email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Stella is located in Southern California. IN THE BEGINNING: Princess (aka Stella) was dumped at the shelter by her family at the worst possible time, 4th of July. They didn't disclose she was VERY pregnant and the shelter didn't catch it because of how busy they are. On Thursday she started having puppies on the cold, shelter floor. One of our volunteers who had been keeping an eye on her ran to the shelter to get her out. They wouldn't release her because she was still in labor and having a bit of a hard time. We had to wait until yesterday to get her and we did! Princess and her 4 surviving babies are safe in a loving foster home. We CANNOT THANK EVERYONE enough for sharing and helping us network for a foster! She was VERY stressed out and is finally relaxing and decompressing. We are watching her and the puppies closely to make sure everyone continues to thrive. We could really use puppy food and formula! If you would like to help donate supplies please email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org for information on how to help! We can ALWAYS use Costco Gift cards!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Dalmatian / Mixed. Forever Home Wanted: Meet Maya!! It always boggles our minds that awesome dogs sit in local shelters day in and day out hoping someone notices them to give them a chance. Sadly, for all too many that chance doesn't come…some are lucky…like Maya! This adorable girl was on the euthanasia list at the Orange Co Shelter. She caught our eye and we weren't going to let her down. Maya is a total doll…she was scared at the shelter and as soon as she got out she was a happy girl! Maya appears to have been bred, probably used for her cute puppies and then discarded. That is all behind her now! Maya is sweet and easy going, appears to be house trained and is good with other male dogs. Maya would love a forever home to call her own. Please email: dogs@labradorsandfriends.org if you are up for making Maya's dreams come true! www.labradorsandfriends.org

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Foster or Forever Home Wanted: Meet Mac!! Mac is a very special guy...he has been with us for a while getting the love, confidence and training he so needed. Mac came from the Carson Shelter, he was petrified and had zero chance of making it out, but we saw something in him and gave him a chance. Mac isn't an easy placement, he will need an experienced owner, one who understands a dog who is afraid of new people. Once Mac knows you and bonds with you he will love you forever, he has a few volunteers he adores and they feel the same about him. Mac has been working with Sadot of Elite K9 Academy and he has made so much progress, but he will still need time, patience, understanding and the right adopter. Mac is house trained, great with puppies, female dogs and dogs smaller than him, he is very playful. We know that person is out there and they will fall in love with Mac just like we did. Please help us make Mac's holiday wish come true! Email dogs@labradorsandfriends.org or fill out our online application at www.labradorsandfriends.org Mac is located in Southern California. In the Beginning: Mac is a Carson Shelter Survivor…he was scared to death at the shelter. Once we got him out he was so much better and now he is starting to decompress and realize he is safe! Mac needs to find his forever home or even a foster who will love him and give him the attention he needs. Mac is unsure of new things, but adapts quickly. He can be a little fearful of new people, but does great when he gets to know you. He rides well in the car, appears to be house and crate trained. He is good with other dogs, but we do not know about cats. Mac is also good on a leash.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Foster or Forever Home Wanted!! Handsome Curtis Is Ready For A Home!! Curtis is a shy, but sweet, 4 year old, lab mix who had a very rough life. Many of you will remember when we rescued him from the San Bernardino City Shelter with a mangled and severed tail. Curtis will need an adult, quieter home, where he can feel comfortable and know he is safe. Curtis is extremely loving once he knows he isn't going to get hurt.
