Litter On The Way

Upcoming Litter Description

Bright Star Aussies is a small, dedicated Miniature Australian Shepherd breeding program committed to excellence in health, temperament, and conformation. Nestled in a loving, hands-on environment, we raise all of our dogs and puppies as cherished family members, not just breeding stock. We are proud to work with four exceptional breeding females and our own proven stud, carefully selected for their structure, intelligence, and sweet nature. To ensure we maintain the vitality and versatility of this incredible breed, we also occasionally partner with outside studs. These thoughtfully chosen pairings allow us to introduce new traits and preserve the integrity of our strong, diverse bloodlines. At Bright Star Aussies, our goal is to produce well-rounded Australian Shepherds—whether for active families, therapy work, dog sports, or loving companionship. Every litter is raised with purpose, early socialization, and a deep respect for the breed standard. We breed with heart, integrity, and a passion for preserving the very best of the Aussie spirit. All our dogs are registered with ASDR (AMERICAN STOCK DOG REGISTERY). Bright Star Aussies is a DNA Verified Kennel and are listed as a Blue Ribbon Breeder with ASDR. We are located about 40 miles East of Dallas, in Terrell, Texas.

Overview:

The Miniature Australian Shepherd, often affectionately called a "Mini Aussie," is a highly intelligent and energetic breed originating from the American West, though its ancestors were indeed Australian herding dogs. Physically, they are a smaller version of the standard Australian Shepherd, sporting a beautiful double coat that comes in various striking colors and patterns, including merle, black, and red, often with white and copper markings. Their bright, expressive eyes are a hallmark feature. Temperamentally, they are known for being exceptionally loyal, eager to please, and highly trainable, making them excel in dog sports like agility and obedience. While generally good with children and other pets when properly socialized, their herding instincts can sometimes manifest in nipping or "herding" behaviors. Due to their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families who can provide ample exercise and training; apartment living is generally not ideal unless the owners are committed to daily vigorous activity. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but potential concerns include certain eye conditions (like Collie Eye Anomaly) and hip or elbow dysplasia, making responsible breeding practices crucial.
