Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. This is sweet Calypso! Calypso (and her 4 siblings) were found abandoned in a cooler in early January. She is a Shepard mix who is currently 11.4 pounds at 12 weeks old. She is likely NOT a toy or small breed of dog. She is a happy girl who gets along with other dogs and loves children. A couple of our local Girl and Boy Scout troops have been socializing the puppies, so she is used to being handled. She is adventurous and yet loves to cuddle. She is crate trained and making normal progress on her housebreaking. She is learning about cats. She is quite curious, but wants to chase and play. Calypso has received her first and second rounds of puppy shots. She will need to return to our vet for the rest of her puppy shots and to be spayed. These costs are paid by Frankies Furry Friends. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
